MBABANE - SwaziBank has donated E13 000 to the top three winners of Miss Deaf Swaziland.

This was confirmed by Miss Deaf Swaziland Director Nokuthula Mbatha who expressed her gratitude for the sponsorship.

"Swazi Bank has always been loyal sponsors of the pageant and this year was no different. The money will be divided accordingly with the queen receiving E6 000, the first princess will receive E4 000 and the second princess will receive E 3 000 respectively," said Mbatha.

The bank has also offered to pay for any educational course Miss Deaf would like to pursue.

Palaistra Gym in Manzini has also pledged to avail the gym’s top class facilities to all three winners with a personal fitness instructor for the duration of their reign.

"We will announce the rest of the sponsors and full prize list as soon as we have compiled it," said Mbatha .

... only E1 000 was raised at finals

MBABANE - Miss Deaf Director Nokuthula Mba-tha has revealed that only E1 000 was made during the Miss Deaf finals on Saturday.

She was quick to say this to her was not a concern at all as the Miss Deaf contest is not about financial gain.

"I am simply grateful for my sponsors for making a difference in the girls’ lives and I am actually glad that the public will get to know that not much money was made as the contest has been under intense scrutiny from a lot of people who felt I was using the deaf community for monetary gain," said Mbatha.

According to Mbatha, most of the people at the Swazi Convention Centre on the night were the sponsors who, for obvious reasons, were given free tickets as a token of appreciation for their support. The deaf community is also not required to pay at the event hence the E1 000 was made from those people who came out to support the deaf.

"Tickets were at a low cost of E50 and I am very grateful to those who showed up," said Mbatha.
