MBABANE – Artists have called upon the Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC) to make it a point that the up upcoming National Arts and Culture Awards are promoted outside the country.

The artists have made it clear that the time had come for the local talent to be showcased even in other countries.
The artists have asked SNCAC to involve the South African Television Cooperation (SABC) as they believed it was one media station that would help in promoting them.

Frans Dlamini made a formal request to Stanley Dlamini, SNCAC Chief Executive Officer, saying the time had come for the local artists to be known internationally.
“When you go and sing outside the country, most people do not believe that we have so much talent in Swaziland. This is a clear sign that as artists, we are not well promoted in other countries,” he said.

He said he strongly believed that the upcoming awards would go a long way in as far as promoting music is concerned.
“Involving companies such as SABC to come and cover the event would really go a long way because they have many viewers and those viewers would get the opportunity of watching local talent,” he said.

Africa Dlamini, a gospel artist from Siteki also shared the same sentiments with Dlamini saying the organisers of the awards should make them better than before.
“Including experienced media houses and companies from other countries would help in improving the standard of the event. It is time we start shining just like other artists who are outside the country,” he said.

Nduduzo Matse said the SNCAC should learn to recognise their own artists and this should be seen on the day of the awards.
“This is a national event so the local artists should be given the opportunity to showcase their talent. They need to be given the stage and time,” he said.

Responding to the request by the artists, the CEO said there were a number of companies that they had approached with the view of having them assisting in order to make the event the best.
