One would have thought it impossible for a gospel artist to collaborate with a Swazi Soul music artist. However, two local artists have already broken that barrier, proving that impossible is nothing when you put your back into it.

Gospel queen Mayibongwe Mthimkhulu and internationally acclaimed Swazi Soul singer Bholoja, real name Mbongiseni Ngubane, have fused their different talents in a song advocating for Epilepsy.

The two did a track titled Epilepsy as commissioned by the Swaziland Epilepsy Organisation.
The song was an idea by Swaziland Epilepsy Organisation’s National Director, Mbusomuni Mahlalela and was done just before the organisation’s annual charity golf event, the Epilepsy Yellow Golf Day.

Its theme is about epilepsy and is meant to raise awareness among people about it.
Mthimkhulu and Bholoja were supposed to render different performances, but they were asked to do one song to which they duly obliged.

The collaboration of two hugely talented artists brought about an excellent musical offering which had people dancing on the night of the Epilepsy Yellow Golf Day gala dinner where the two were on the same stage at the same time for the first time ever.
Style had a chat with Mayibongwe Mthimkhulu on her experience in working on the project with the internationally recognised artist.

“Working on this track with Bholoja was a great experience. I actually did not think such was possible but together we did it,” she said.
Askes on why she agreed to working on something totally different from her chosen career path, Mthimkhulu stated that she had always advocated for charity and awareness raising initiatives, so when the idea was pitched to her, she saw it as an opportunity to do just that.

“I also felt it would be a different thing and a challenge because such a collaboration has never been tried before. I also realised that this would be a learning curve for me, for both of us and would help us grow in music,” said the musician.
The artist mentioned that her part was being a bit involved in the production and arrangement of the song, while Bholoja was instrumental in coming up with the lyrical aspect of the creativity.
Also asked about the experience of being in a recording studio with the Zero to Hero hit maker, she said; “I must admit I was a bit nervous at first. However, as we started working I threw my concentration into singing and from the very first lyric uttered, things went well. It was an amazing feeling to be in studio with one of the country’s most recognised stars in music. He really knows his stuff and that is what made working with him fun.”

However, that does not eclipse the feeling of being on one stage at the same time and belting it out with the guitar strumming music sensation.
“Oh! That was truly awesome. We gave out the best of our abilities on that stage.”
She went on to tell us about whether she gained anything from the collaboration.

“There was a lot I derived from him and I believe he also had something to learn from me. Being a part of this project has surely been beneficial to me and will help me as I look to gain more growth in my career and better myself, especially on stage,” she said.

Bholoja, however, could not be reached for comment since he was out of the country.
However, Swaziland Epilepsy Organisation’s National Director has praised both stars for doing commendable work.

He further stated that the performance was not the last since they would use the song to raise awareness internationally in a unique way, and were looking to take the two artists with them whenever they would go out to other countries for conferences and other things to do with Epilepsy advocacy.
