Seven-year old shines in Youth Talent Show

MBABANE - Seven-year-old Tebenguni Simelane has emerged the winner in the Youth Talent Show competition.


She outclassed her counterparts in the dance category when she won the first prize, winning herself dance training from Vintage Studios.
The competition was run by The Swaziland Conferences of Churches and the Zombodze Primary School pupil was competing against Mbabane-based group, Black Cats and Temalangeni Dlamini. She got 923 votes, followed by Temalangeni Dlamini with 816 votes.


Nosimilo Dlamini, Tebenguni’s aunt said the family was ecstatic about her niece’s win as she was the youngest in the category.

“We are thrilled about the win especially because she was the youngest and she did her best. We are so proud of Tebenguni. We would like to thank the church, for the support,” Dlamini said.


In the Stand-Up comedy division, Giyani Msibi won first prize. Msibi was competing against Nduduzo Nkonyane and The Apostolic Faith Mission (Ngonini). He won himself an iPad which is sponsored by PC Systems after securing 1868 votes.
Msibi, who is a Journalism and Media Studies student at Limkokwing University is ecstatic about winning the first prize.


“I am over the moon about the win. The competition was tight as there is only a difference of 20 votes between me and the Apostolic Faith Mission. I am grateful to God and those who voted for me for becoming the winner,” Msibi said.
He noted that the comedy industry lacked support locally and his aim was to take it to the next level. He also wants to mentor others who might want to join the industry.


The 23-year-old and other winners in the different categories will be presented with their  prizes on Saturday at the Swedish Free Church in Manzini next to the Voice of the Church (VOC). The function will start at 9am.
Msibi was closely followed by The Apostolic Faith Mission (Ngonini), who came second with 1848 votes and third prize was won by Nduduzo Nkonyane who got 1838 votes in this category.


In the poetry division, Mpumi Mkhabela scooped the first prize which is a scholarship from Workers’ College. She said she was excited about her win and had God to thank for it. “Somehow I had faith I would win. I am grateful to my church and friends who encouraged me to join. I am most thankful to God since this was His doing,” Mkhabela said.


Poem


The poem that won her the prize is titled ‘Innocent Child’, which is about an abused child. Mkhabela is a second year Public Relations student at Limkokwing University and to her poetry is a means of communicating her feelings.
Mkhabela got 353 votes and was followed by Nomfundo ‘Mocats’ Sifundza with 193 votes. Majaha Nkonyane came third with 189 votes in this division.


Under the music category, Izikhova Ezimncini won the first prize, which is a demo recording from Dem Dm Studios.
Member of the group Jabulani Dlamini said they were grateful to the Swaziland Conference of Churches for such an opportunity.


“We are ecstatic about this win and are grateful to people like Reverend Shongwe. We are very happy, especially about the prize,” Dlamini said.
Izikhova got 1080 votes, while Senzo Gamedze who came second, had 1016 followed by Bongiwe Gwebu with 142 votes.
Reverend Winston Shongwe said the winners would be presented with their prizes on Saturday at Swedish Free Church in Manzini next to the Voice of the Church (VOC). The function will start at 9am.


“The winners have been chosen, however, every contestant will receive a prize for participating in the talent show. We are grateful to the public for making this competition a success. We thank everyone for the votes,” Shongwe said.
