MANZINI – Gospel artists have resolved not to perform during the upcoming International Trade Fair Gospel Sunday Festival unless they are paid E10 000 each.

The artists took the resolution during a meeting held at the Jamming House on Tuesday.
During the meeting that lasted for about four hours, the artists resolved that they would not take part in this year’s festival unless the Trade Fair Committee gives them at least E10 000 each.

Attend

Attending the meeting chaired by Dumisani Manana, ACASWA President were about 20 artists who all made it clear that they would not attend the festival unless they are paid accordingly.
Some of the artists who attended the meeting include Frans Dlamini, Nduduzo Matse, Mduduzi Nezinceku Zamagawugawu, Police Gospel Messengers. Also for the idea was Shongwe and Khuphuka.

Initially, the meeting was meant to be brief as artists were only expected to decide on how they were going to assist towards the funeral of Enock Mkhwanazi, who was once the association’s Public Relations Officer.

Just before the meeting ended, Nhlanhla Mbingo of Siphofaneni Born Again stood up and asked that the issue of the Trade Fair be discussed.
Mbingo said as artists they were having a problem in as far as the issue of the Trade Fair was concerned and asked that it be discussed.

Perform

Frans Dlamini made it clear that he was not going to perform at the Trade Fair as the money he was being paid was just too little.
“Whenever I prepare for such a show, I do not spend less than E10 000. At the Trade Fair, I am required to bring a full band and only paid between E4 000 and E5 000. I would rather go to church and thereafter go home than to the Trade Fair knowing that I would not get anything,” he said.
He was supported by Mduduzi Simelane of Emagagwugawu who made it clear that what was happening was not right.

Should the drink-driving fine be increased to E15 000?
