Mbabane – Swaziland’s first ever gospel hip hop album, ‘The Journey Begins’, performed by Christian rapper Switch, officially sold out last Friday, barely eight months in the market.

News of Switch’s album sales were communicated through the SBIS Top 20 Chart Show by his manager and fellow rapper, Zwakele ‘Zwa’ Mkhonta.
“Switch’s album initially sold out in the first month of its release when all 500 copies that had been pressed were bought. We were compelled to press 500 more and by Easter it was sold out. We then pressed a thousand more copies that officially sold out last Friday,” said Zwa.
Zwa registered his team’s delight at the appreciation of Gospel Hip hop music by both the young and the old, and assured fans and prospective buyers that more copies would be pressed and released under a new sleeve design.

“We have seen it before elsewhere, an album can be re-released under a new sleeve, and people should anticipate Switch’s album to hit the shelves again under a new sleeve design,” said Zwa.
Currently, Switch’s album boasts of four chart busters; ‘Who is He’ and ‘You Deserve’, both featuring Slotta, ‘They want’, and ‘Awesome God’, featuring American rapper Ric Flo.

‘Who is He’ was released as the first single before the album dropped last December, and it became one of the greatest contemporary gospel songs Swaziland has ever had. It was at number two in the Top 20 weekly charts back then. It was preceded with yet another Slotta featured track, ‘You deserve’, which also went as far as the second spot in the charts. His third single, ‘They want’ became an anthem with young Christians at various youth camps and concerts. Currently, Switch is enjoying massive airplay with his top five single, ‘Awesome God’, that features Ric Flo, an American christian rapper of Lecrae’s calibre. ‘Awesome God’ is currently pegged at number four.
