MBABANE – Over 500 fun lovers came out to support local talent at House on Fire during the Sibebe Friday Night Live.

People started filling up the place as early as 8pm and by 10pm the venue was already packed to capacity.
Musician Anakhonza, who was the programme director of the night, kept the audience entertained with his timely jokes.

The first performance was from local artist Magulambere who performed some mature African music using his instrument.
The opening act by Nomsa Mthethwa known as Nomsa M lived up to the slot’s expectation as she created a perfect platform for those who performed after her.
Her music was well received by the audience as she performed songs that were not new to the audience like ‘Ngiphekeletele’. She would frequently join her fans on the dance floor, an act they really appreciated.

The main act, Archie Morale, also sweated it out after Nomsa M as he rendered his jazz piece along side the Synchronized Band.
This team is fresh from performing at the Joe Nina show and one could tell that they are starting to gel together possibly because of the fact that they often perform together. Archie and the Synchronized Band did an almost two-hour performance that was divided into two.

Dance

Qibho, Sands alongside the Synchronized Band and Archie collaborated for a piece that was appreciated by the audience before the former (Qibho, Sands) performed two songs including ‘Jozi’ that resulted in the ladies crowding the dance floor and taking pictures of the artists.
SwaziBoy’s DJ Cece took over after midnight and got everyone on the dance floor with his old school mixes while randomly mixing with some commercial house until 4 am.

… Indibano’s Themba Sukati applauds support for local talent

MALKERNS – Indibano Jazz Club Director, Themba Sukati has applauded the support that is given to the local artists in the country.

Sukati said the show was very exciting well organised and the talent displayed has sent a message to everyone associated with the growth of music in the country.
“Honestly the artists have tried their best and now it’s left to us as promoters to take over from where the artists have left off,” he said.

Sukati said he came with his friends from Botswana who said they had never anticipated that Swaziland had so much talent and it was a coincidence that their debut experience of fun was the Sibebe Friday Night Live.
He said the notion of calling South African artists and paying them lots of money should stop especially because Swazi artists have shown that they are not curtain raisers.

Sukati’s words were echoed by House on Fire’s Jiggs Thorne who said the Sibebe Friday Night Live concept was growing with each and every show.
He appreciated the attendance and said it showed that Swaziland had one vision of celebrating the different music genres by local artists.
He recalled five years ago when it was close to impossible to host a show featuring local artists only.

“The coming together of the artists creates an identity and it’s very exciting. This is important because it allows the artists to show expression with the audience or public which is more like storytelling,” said Jiggs.

Appreciated

Jiggs also appreciated the presence of representatives from the Swazi-land Beverages as they witnessed that in every Sibebe Friday Night Show, Sibebe drinks are sold out.
Most of the revellers who came to the show said they were very happy with the performances rendered on the night.
Tenele Maphalala, who also came to support the show, said it was a very brilliant show. She singled out Nomsa M as her best performer of the night.
“This talent needs to be nurtured well for the end product,” she said.

The Sibebe Night Live seeks to get local artists that will perform at the annual MTN BUSHFIRE.

What some of the performing artists had to say:

Nomsa M

“I have been here before as a backup vocalist for the likes of Zaza, but this was the best experience for me. The audience responded well to my performance and it showed that they loved my music. I felt humble to observe the way the audience responded to my song ‘Ngi-pheketele’.”

Archie Morale

“It was not a bad show as I really enjoyed it, although we had to do some deep jazz at times and some of the audience did not understand it but I hope next time will be better. The attendance was great though. Local talent is really coming okay and people should expect more and we appeal for their support.”

Sands

“The crowd was perfect as they allowed us to express our feelings through the music. It was also humbling to note that the audience was singing the lyrics of our songs even before we release the album.”
