It is a beautiful weekend for University of Swaziland students as it is the start of the week-long Intervarsity Games.

The local students will be joined by their counterparts from Lesotho and Botswana. What a perfect way to welcome them than with massive shows that will feature some of the biggest names in the local and South African entertainment industry.

The fun kicks off tonight with a gospel show that will feature award-winning star Nqubeko Mbatha who will be joined by locals Bakhe Dlamini, Nduduzo Matse and Mduduzi neZinceku Zamagawugawu.

Tomorrow is definitely the big night where students and fun lovers, in general, will be entertained by the irresistible Kalawa Jazmee crew including the dance kings Uhuru of ‘Y-tjukutja’ fame, the ‘Drum Boss’ Heavy-K and the king of house music, Oskido. So those whose dancing shoes are old, are requested to go and buy new ones now because it is going to be a hot weekend. I can almost hear Oskido screaming ‘Can I get a hell yeah’! Read all about it below. (COMPILED BY: Ntombi Mhlongo)

TONIGHT

What: Intervarsity Games Gospel Friday
Where: Kwaluseni Sports Emporium
South African award-winning gospel star Nqubeko Mbatha will perform tonight at a concert that will mark the official opening of this year’s local Intervarsity Games. Mbatha is a former Joyous Celebration member and is a husband to talented award-winning star Ntokozo Mbambo. He was a judge during the second season of the SABC2 reality competition ‘I Want to Sing Gospel’, in 2011. Even though it has not been confirmed, Mbambo is likely to accompany her talented husband and, obviously, a performance by both of them would be awesome. Also included on the list of performers are local artists who include Pastor Bakhe, Mduduzi Nezinceku Zamagawugawu, Nduduzo Matse, G-Light, Sihle, Youth Effect, Uniswa SCM, Wisdom and Twister.
Those who would be attending the show will be expected to pay a sum of E100 at the entrance.
Students will be expected to bring their IDs and will be required to pay E80.

TOMORROW

What: Intervarsity Games Opening Bash
Where: Riders Ranch
Tomorrow is the big night in as far as the Intervarsity Games are concerned with the hosting of the opening bash. The event will feature South African house music giants Uhuru who are fresh from shining at the Metro FM Music Awards, which took place in Durban last weekend. They will be accompanied by their Kalawa Jazmee colleagues in the likes of Oskido, Busiswa and Nokwazi. Also in the list is the ‘Drum Boss’ king Heavy-K who is currently among the highly rated musicians in South Africa. This is undoubtedly the best line-up ever and the students and fun lovers will definitely have the time of their lives. The damage is E150 for non-students, E100 for students and E250 for VIP and the event is set for the Riders Ranch, which is popular for hosting the annual Bikers Rally.

What: Livi LaBomake Women’s Voices Art Exhibition Opening
Where: Umsamo, The Swaziland National Museum
The Yebo! ArtReach will host an exhibition to honour International Women’s Day. The exhibition, which opens tomorrow and will run for five weeks, will feature paintings, photography and poetry from the Yebo ArtReach Womens Art Project. The opening starts at 12pm and will have speakers like Swaziland National Trust Commission (SNTC) CEO Titus Dlamini and Ruth Newman from the US Embassy. Guests are encouraged to dress in creative, casual or cultural wear.

SUNDAY

What: Mr/Miss Intervarsity
Where: Woodlands Conference Hall
Last weekend we witnessed the crowing of this year’s Mr and Miss UNISWA, which was a successful event. After coming out tops against their local counterparts, the two are expected to battle it out with students from Lesotho and Botswana for the two titles, Mr and Miss Intervarsity 2014/2015. As has been the case during beauty pageants, the organisers have put in place an exciting line-up of entertainers who will ensure that  students have fun after the crowning. The entertainers include the South African talented duo of Black Motion plus local award-winning afro jazz star Nomzamo Dlamini aka Zaza. Black Motion is nothing but a house music duo originating from Kalawa Jazzmee. They have a tendency of turning the house industry upside down with their drum and bass beats which is sure to get everyone dancing. This duo is making a serious buzz with their constant compilation of hits, receiving airplay across the globe. The damage is E100.

What: Intervarsity Choral Competition
Where: Kwaluseni Campus
It is an obvious fact that there is a lot of talent at the tertiary institutions. Organisers of the Intervarsity Games have, therefore, ensured that those who have talent in choral music also get to showcase it and compete against their counterparts from the other countries. The competition will take place on Sunday, starting at 2pm where guests will be entertained by local opera music singers Amazing Tenors. Making the competition interesting is the fact that the locals are the defending champions so it remains to be seen if they will defend their crown.
Those who will attend the competition will be expected to contribute a sum of E20 at the entrance while students with IDs will be charged E10.

it used to amaze me that a man with so much allegations, like taking a tour while his wife was sick and dying, sleeping around with beauty pageants, impregnating beauty pageants, requesting to sleep with beauty pageants directors, was the main person spreading un true allegations about Miss Nokuthula Mbatha. Mr. Dlamini have you been cleared?I would be sympathetic of others if I was you.
