SRC DEMANDS REFUND FROM KALAWA ARTISTS

MBABANE – The University of Swaziland Student Representative Council (SRC) wants a refund from Kalawa Jazzme.
This, after some of the stable’s artists who were booked to perform during the Intervarsity Games failed to attend the shows.

These include Heavy K and Oskido. Heavy K, however, did arrive for the show but could not perform as by the time he wanted to perform  the show had not started. Information gathered was that he wanted to play at around 7pm because he had another show on the same night.

Bonkhe Shabangu who is the Internal Affairs minister at UNISWA lamented the state of affairs and said they will have a meeting where they will analyse everything regarding the Intervarsity Games.
“We are expecting Kalawa to refund us because we played our part in terms of payments and otherwise. We spent a lot in marketing and advertising the opening bash and we cannot relax and let such an amount of money to go down the drain,” said Shabangu.

Initially, after the duo failed to perform it was agreed they will be rescheduled to perform alongside DJ Tira on the closing bash but again that never happened.
“The critical part about the refund is to get the formula in which to get the specific amount since we got a package deal but we are hoping to get to the bottom of the matter,” Shabangu said.
Local promoter and DJ, Mxolisi Mthethwa, popularly known as DJ Peace, shed light on what usually happens under such circumstances.

Contracts

“From what I know in cases like this, the promoter usually looks for another date to get the services of the artists, at least according to one of the contracts that I have from Kalawa. But under the subject regarding the UNISWA issue I doubt they will need the services of the artists hence the refund I suppose is their best option. However having said that obviously it will include some administrative costs from both parties,” he explained.

On the day of the event Kalawa artists who performed included Uhuru of ‘Y’tjukutja’ track, Busiswa and Nokwazi.
