7 LOCAL CHOIRS READY FOR MELTING POT FEST
MBABANE – Manzini Choir and the Royal Swaziland Police Choir (RSPC) are among the choirs who will represent the country during the Melting Pot Choral Music Festival.
The country will be participating in the festival for the first time after receiving an invitation from the organisers.
The festival will be held in June 1,2014 in Mpumalanga. The actual venue of the festival is yet to be announced.
Displayed
The invitation came after the local choirs especially RSPC displayed one of their best performances during the Old Mutual Choral Music Festival held in Durban last year.
The two choirs will be accompanied by five other choirs. These choirs include Correctional Services, Harmonious Singers, Mbabane Methodist, Royal Swazi Spa and Florence Catholic Church Choir.
Royal Swazi Spa and Florence Catholic Church Choir will be the only choirs representing the country in the standard section while the rest would be competing in the Large Section.
Registration of the festival has been closed as preparations have already started.
Before the actual festival, all the conductors of the choirs to take part in the competition will be expected to attend a workshop where they would be informed of all the logistics of the competition.
Confirmed
Sithembiso Dlamini, Swaziland Choral Music Association Secretary General confirmed that only seven local choirs confirmed their participation in the festival.
“The registration has already been closed and we are now waiting for the songs to be released in order for the choirs to start preparations of the festival.
Our intention is to see the local choirs shining during the festival and it is the reason why we thought it would be proper for us to start the preparations as early as possible,” he said.
Dlamini said those choirs who had the interest of taking part in the competition yet they had not registered will not be allowed as the registration has been closed.
“We would have loved to have more choirs participating but some choirs were not ready and they decided not to take part. We are positive that the choirs will make us proud as we have faith in them,” he said.
Support
Dlamini said they were intending to organise transport that will take the local fans to where the competition will be held.
“We are aware that there are a number of people who support choral music. We want more supporters and we will see to it that we make arrangements to have the supporters’ accompany the choirs,” he said.
