MBABANE – The Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC) has sponsored Pelepele dance group with a 12- seater kombi for their trip to South Africa.

SNCAC Chief Executive Officer Stanley Dlamini confirmed the sponsorship during the group’s performance presentation at the Swaziland Theatre Club yesterday.
“We will be giving them the kombi to enable them to travel to Bloemfontein on Sunday and we hope that they will represent the country well,” he said.

Dlamini then challenged local dance groups to use the local language profitably through art. He made an example of English which is used globally as an instrument to make money.

Heroes

“The significance of the English language is even evident in communities as people who speak it are regarded as heroes. Thus we are also challenged to use art as we are talented to give value to the local language,” he said.
Pelepele Director Larry Mhlanga thanked the council for the sponsorship and assured that they will continue to do the country proud in international assignments.

“We are so humbled by the support from Arts and Culture and we hope that it will extend it to other local groups. As we leave on Sunday we will make sure that the country is well represented,” he said.

Praises

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Sicelo Dlamini, who represented the minister, also sang praises for the group.
“We have heard, as a ministry, about the good work done by the group in terms of participating in international concerts. Thus we take pride in it and wish them well as they travel to South Africa for another performance,” he said.
Meanwhile he could not hide his excitement at seeing the group’s live performance.

Moreover he thanked the sponsors, Parmalat and Boost, in particular, for supporting arts in the country.
Also present during the event was the President of the Association of Swaziland Theatre Groups (ASTG) Nicholas Mamba.

Pelepele showed a glimpse of what they will be doing in South Africa and parts of the dances are influenced by the Chilean Choreographer Carolina Pulga who was in the country recently.
