MBABANE – Ten local musicians stand a chance of obtaining scholarships to study art programmes in Ireland.

This will be through a partnership through Jamming House and an Ireland based organisation known as a Abraham’s Trust.
The initiative is set to be launched today.

Jamming House Director Pile Msibi said they were excited by the initiative from the organisation as it will greatly improve the arts industry in the country.

“The organisation’s mandate is to help countries that have not reached the First World status hence the inclusion of Swaziland.
“We were very shocked to get the partnership as we did not even apply for it but through the grace of God they were able to identify us,” said Msibi.

Msibi said their intake for the scholars will be in September hence in the meantime they will be focusing on the recruitment procedures and the consultations with the relevant authorities. He stated that all the programmes run for three years and are degrees. This means after the consultations they will be able to tell if the local students will be away for the three years or not.

“For the selection of the artists we are going to use qualifications which obviously include O’level, experience in the field and among others a police clearance,” he said.
Swaziland National Council CEO Stanley Dlamini confirmed the matter but stated that he was to meet the overseas based organisation delegation plus the Jamming House Directors yesterday.
“We have had a meeting before about the matter and we have scheduled another meeting today (yesterday) to deliberate on the key issues because this was now a national matter. Among other key consultations will be to engage the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to get information in terms of the welfare of the students while they are away.

The director of the organisation Shelly Hestings said they were excited by the initiative as their mandate is to promote quality education.
“We have about five fully accredited institutions by the QTY Agencies in Ireland that we work with and we will be unveiling them during the launch. Otherwise this is to promote quality education and the students are obliged to come back and empower their countries after their studies,” she said.
The students will study programmes including music, graphic designing, painting and digital media among others.
