ONLY TWO CONTESTANTS SHOW UP FOR MR/MISS IDM

MANZINI – It was an embarrassing night at the Mr/Miss IDM as only two contestants showed up for the finals.

The event was hosted at  Mario’s Car park on Friday night. The night was doomed when the event started about three hours late.
The male category for the Mr IDM also had to be scrapped as the contestants pulled out at the last minute.

The event organiser, Menzi Magagula, lamented the fact that the contestants ‘sold him a dummy’ as he was not aware they were not going to honour the event.
“I am disappointed by the incident as I was organising the event after their interest. The students personally approached me since I hosted a successful opening bash in 2012.

“After we decided that we were going to stage a night for the ladies, only, the number of the contestants stood at seven and for me I felt it was reasonable to continue hosting the show not knowing that only two would attend,” said Magagula.

Magagula, however, said he had no major losses for the show as he tried to host on a ‘zero budget’, but he, admitted he did make a loss on the marketing and transport side of it.
“I cannot say I made a huge loss as people might think. As it is, evidently all the entertainers DJs in particular, came to play out of support,” he said.

He also outlined that in as much as he was disappointed it was a learning curve for him and he will be hosting such shows in future.
The event was then reduced the two contestants with DJ Cya on the turntables. The few who attended felt the organisers should have at least opted for a new date rather than to force matters. Most of the students who had come to watch the show eventually filled Mario’s Pub and did not even bother attending the show.
