MARVELLOUS JOYOUS!!!

MANZINI – Joyous Celebration proved why they always sell-out venues when they delivered a great four-hour performance to over 3 000 people.
The show held at the Mavuso Trade Centre kicked-off at 5:30pm with local bands warming the stage before the main act. Worth noting is that the car park at the massive Mavuso Trade Centre grounds was already fully packed by 4pm as people started arriving as early as 1pm to secure parking spots. By the time gates opened at 4:30pm there was already a long queue of fans waiting patiently.
Those who opted to arrive at around 5:30 - 6pm were met with an already packed Mavuso hall as the general seating area was already fully occupied and the VIP too was reaching its limit quickly.
Local songbird Banele proved to all why she was the eventual winner of the Voice of the Church (VOC) curtain-raiser competition. The young woman clad in a canary yellow gown delivered a soulful 30-minute rendition that had the entire audience on their feet. Her song ‘Amen’ had everyone singing and dancing along.
Not to be outdone Gospel group Shongwe and Khuphuka were what other audience members termed true Swazi celebrities. The deafening screams when they entered the stage to having everyone sing along to all their songs proved their popularity.
This set the perfect mood for the main act, Joyous Celebration who took to the stage at exactly 7:30pm and opened the floor with their song ‘Uyinkhosi’, getting everyone to dance and worship. The choir was clad in their trademark light blue and tribal print outfits for their first set, with only the lead singers appearing in custom outfits for their lead solos.
There was a 20 minute break which gave the audience a chance to get refreshments and when they took to the stage on their last set , the group was clad in classic black and white outfits.

The two were dressed in trademark nude tone suites and were welcomed with screams from the audience. Jabu Hlongwane sang his song ‘Ukholo lwami’, which the auidience joined in as did Mthunzi Namba .
When the two bid farewell screams from the audience were heard, asking them where they were headed to as they wanted them to continue singing. This revealed a funny side of Jabu Hlongwane who jokingly said ‘Siya eSiteki’’ much to the amusement of the audience .
Phumelelo Mbambo was one Joyous member most people were eager to see, as she delivers energetic performances on stage. She did not disappoint as she gave a great 15-minute show with her trademark Zion dance inspired moves , which sent the audience into a frenzy .
Closing the show was Joyous member Sbu who sang the song ‘Ungithatha la , angibeke le’ and had the audience eating from the palm of his hand. By this time it was already 1am but the crowd was still on its feet.
The group bid the Swazi fans farewell and alighted from stage at 1:30am, after their great four hour set deliverance.
