THE POWER OF SUBJECTIVITY
THERE are many philosophies, many theories and unending opinions on many different things and this reflects on the fact that life is subjective. Life is not limited to the lived experiences of just one person and as such, you are most likely to meet a thousand people who beg to differ on many things you have to say. This is both beautiful in its adversity, and also a lesson to understand and always think outside of ourselves. The most intelligent man in a room in the time we live in is the one that is open to error and learning; they have mastered the art of progress in simply being flexible to change and to learning that life is not as black and white as their own experiences. This is one of the pain points we have as a nation.
Improve
The areas in which we lack and need to improve are the ones that require flexibility from us, when you think you know too much, consider yourself in desperate need of knowing more. The dynamics of growing are such that we invest tirelessly in knowledge. Many people are still stuck in the same areas of life without any growth, is not truly a reflection of a lack of opportunities – although we cannot deny that we exist in a society with very limited opportunities – but rather it is also a reflection of a lack of room to learn. Many people learn through growing, a manager will most likely be a waitress that did not even study anything ‘management’ related, but has worked at the restaurant enough to learn the job to be more, hence the opportunity was presented. The supervisor most likely did not learn any management course or apply for the job, but were promoted on the merit of their willingness to learn and grow outside of what they were doing before.
Opportunities
When we are presented with opportunities to learn, we ought to see them as significant to our growth, and not as scale to measure our worth because life is subjective. Even for the dreams that we want to change, many opinions will exist on how to best execute things in order to be successful, while not all these opinions will work for us and many of them do not even take us where we want to go and so there is always the liberty of free thinking, of taking the road less travelled and allowing yourself to change the norms and expectations held over the other side of reality. In fact, success requires a level of acceptance and familiarity with subjectiveness in order to shut out any outside noise. There will be so much noise, after all, when people start new things or defy norms, they will get a reaction and not every reaction is pleasant nor a true reflection of what you are doing and knowing this is accomplished through the understanding of subjectivity and the power it holds. The opinions and noise of others is just that, a passing moment amid an experience they have not lived a moment in and so the master of creating change is yourself through learning from that noise what you need and leaving what you do not.
Life
The idea that we can go through life in a silent ride through many phases is farfetched, in fact it means we are not alive if our existence does not erupt the norms and standards set for us then we are abiding by the expectations of others, and not by the standards we hold ourselves to. In the same wavelength, it is important to understand when we are being subjective in our beliefs and choices and when we are being arrogant because the two are not the same. When a person is arrogant, they take away the opportunity to be corrected from themselves. Although we are all chasing different goals and most probably all have different ways of accomplishing things, there will always be room to heed advise from others and to make use of what we can learn from the experiences of others. After all, there is never a need to suffer when we can choose to learn from the experiences of others. There are lessons in observing others and in taking in what others have encountered in similar situations. Sometimes many people can be right at the same time, it all depends on how we choose to look at things and the intentions behind the side of the picture we choose to look through.
