EVERY LIVING THING IS FIGHTING TO SURVIVE

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

I was recently overwhelmed by the realisation that every living organism, including the planet Earth that we call home, is frantically fighting to survive. We hear of plant change and changing weather patterns, but in reality, the planet is simply trying to adapt to new conditions it finds itself facing. Scientists are claiming that it is us humans who have changed the conditions such that the planet now has to adjust.

Unfortunately, for us humans, this means destructive weather patterns as planet Earth tries to shake off the discomfort caused by humans, and if we persist the planet will try to get rid of humanity altogether. Self-preservation is ultimately the most important goal driving all living organisms, including the microscopic organisms we can’t see with the naked eye. Humans will do all in their power to remove harmful or even deadly living microscopic organisms and parasites such as viruses and bacteria, which when left unchallenged will kill the body, tiny as they are. This means Earth when threatened will take humanity out to preserve itself.

Self-preservation is ultimately the goal

Self-preservation occurs instinctively as basic information on how to survive is passed on from our parents and their parents right down from our ancestors. Have you ever noticed that some information and abilities do not have to be taught by any parent, but just come naturally? Without sounding overly scientific which I am not, we are told that the smallest building block of our bodies is the cell. Within the cell is what is known as the nucleus, which is at the centre of the cell and has all the information (DNA) relating to the past, present and future of any living organism. Inside these millions of cells is self-preservation, reproductive and survival information. Every living organism is born fully equipped with all the information it needs to survive.

Unfortunately, every living organism will do everything possible to survive even if means killing its host like viruses and bacteria. As a writer, who speaks truth to politics, I find nature very similar to life and politics. Africans and indeed emaSwati were colonised by the Western world and imposed their way of life in order to preserve themselves. The people called emaSwati are almost extinct when we have approximately 1.2 million in Eswatini and another 1.3 of Swati descent in South Africa. This means emaSwati are approximately 2.5 million in a world population of approximately 8.2 billion people according to the United Nations. EmaSwati once had huge tracks of land under King Mswati II, but now we are a tiny nation. Africa has all the resources but is considered the poorest continent. Why?

Competition for resources

Throughout all the ecosystems in nature, there is a battle raging for limited resources. This leads to serious completion among the living organism for nourishment to sustain, protection, reproduction and growth. All living organisms need certain resources to survive which include food, water, air and shelter or a host environment conducive to their survival.
It is so important for emaSwati and Africans, in general, to realise that we are at war for resources. And to realise that this war is not against each other, but against the rest of the world. We cannot continue to rely on handouts and aid to boost our budgets when we have our own resources taken from underneath us. The Royal Eswatini Mining Corporation (REMCO) is long overdue. We can’t wait for foreign companies to come and open mines and take our resources, as that is not self-preservation.
Evolutionary change is
inevitable
Every organism in nature is constantly under pressure to adapt and evolve just to survive the evolutionary pressure. Nature has to teach emaSwati that we need to adapt and evolve in ways that will enhance and secure our survival and that of our future generation. We have done well as a nation, but have not done enough. We are living in a highly democratic and competitive world where almost all political systems have strong elements of democracy in their leadership. This ensures that they get the best leadership possible. This includes the highly successful Chinese one-party system, which emphasised nationalism instead of individualistic capitalism. As I don’t advocate for the multiparty political system I still feel that the Tinkhundla system (which is democratic to a large extent) can be fully democratic with the direct election of the prime minister and possibly exported to all African countries as a solution to the tribal and ethnic conflicts that have kept Africa divided and exploited.

Excessive wealth to the few

Again nature is very clear on excessive wealth. The body is a prime example of how detrimental excessive wealth is to the body. The scientist calls the accumulation of fat obesity. This goes against every principle of survival. Not one person reaches old age obese. It is against nature.

Obesity is a medical problem that increases the risk of many other diseases and health problems. These can include heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, liver disease, sleep apnea and certain cancers. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/obesity.

In a country where a few are excessively rich all the resources (carried by the blood) destined to all parts of the body (which is the nation) can’t get to the people because a few are accumulating too much (fat) and are not using it. The ‘heart’ is the working class who have to work harder, pumping the blood (the resources) to feed a few who store it away in off-share banks as useless fat to the collective.

The body or nature calls this high blood pressure or high cholesterol and can only lead to a heart attack. Cancerous cells that should not multiply get corrupted and don’t die. When money and not principle and rule of law is the standard then bad people strive, and like in the body cause certain cancers.

Corruption adopts self–preservation by buying the law and thus death of that body (nation) is imminent. Unless the mind (His Majesty the King and government leadership) realises the antibiotics (strong anti-corruption legislation with real will and power) are needed urgently to help the body’s immune system (the police and army) the survival of the body (nation) would be impossible.

: 8% EEC Tariff Hike Cut
Does 8% cut have the potential to ease financial burdens for emaSwati?
