The truth shall set you free: John 8:32

Introduction

Jesus told the Jews who believed in him saying, “if you remain in my word you are truly my disciples and you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free” John 8:32.  His word is the Bible. We should delight ourselves in the word of God, read the promises written therein, and strive to search for the truth in the word.

Thereafter meditate on the Word, thinking about the words we have read, and their application to life. Be built up in Jesus and abide in him, have a personal relationship with Him. As we learn more of the word of God, our faith will grow and we shall be able to know the truth which will enable us to discern the will of God for our lives.

Jesus is the truth

Jesus Christ is the ultimate and full manifestation of God. He is the truth. He says, “I myself am the truth. I and I alone, and no one else I am the truth.” Jesus is the actual picture or personification of the truth. He is the dependable and revealer of God. He hears what the Father says and does what the Father tells Him to do, John 5:19; 8:29. In other words Jesus is the way that reveals the truth about God and He is the giver of life.

Christ is our redeemer; He has bought us back, out of slavery of sin. His power is the liberating power. “Fear not,” He says, “for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art Mine. Since you are precious in My sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee.” Isaiah. 43:1, 4.

Know the truth

The truth is nothing else but Jesus himself, so if we get to know him definitely we shall know God and we shall be set free. Jesus tells us that a true knowledge of the Father can only be obtained through a true knowledge of the Son. “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him”, John 14:7. If the Son is truly known, the Father is truly known.

We can know the Father by knowing the Son. Christ was more than an appearance of God; He was God made in flesh. He was the only-begotten, who fully declared Him. He is the God-man. He is full human and fully God.  Many have heard about this truth but they did not bother themselves in getting to know it.  Hearing about the truth is not enough but one has to take a giant step in knowing this truth personally.  Jesus declares in the bible that he is the Way, Truth and the Life.

If Jesus claims to be the truth let us then hold on to him and we will definitely live and be set free. The people who are resisting Christ are resisting the liberating power that alone can redeem them from any enslaving power.

Deliverance

There is no other way by which we can be delivered except through Christ the truth. Many people have spent their finances trying to get help yet the only solution is to know the truth.  The Bibles states that “My people perish because of lack of knowledge”. Get knowledge about God, know him intimately you shall be set free. Others sought healing from other countries only to find out that the solution is in accepting the truth Jesus Christ. So many of our people because of ignorance have been robbed by the so called ‘man of God’ who wants them to give money so that their problems would be solved or put money at the feet of the Apostles so that they may be prosperous.

Beware people of God, sow your seed to a fertile ground, and eat what is bread to you.  Do not allow people to manipulate you into giving you what you should be eating. Eat your bread and sow your seed. Beware that good seeds germinate where the soil is fertile. Seek the truth you will be free from every form of bondage. Be connected to the truth. When we are connected to Christ, you will bring forth the fruits of righteousness.

For sure, this is not a one day thing, it is a process and of course a struggle. But we must bear fruits of righteousness. If we are connected to the truth we shall be delivered. The truth brings about deliverance to all the aspects of our lives. We cannot be in Christ and still behave in the old same way we behaved before we got saved.

Hold on to the Truth

In Hebrews 2:1 the Bible states that we should hold on to the truth.  So many people hold on to a number of things but not to the truth that is why they are get disappointments. As we hold on to the truth it will enlighten our spiritual understanding. We should be established in the truth so that we can be able to stand during hard times.  We should not neglect the truth in times of hardship. We should seek refuge upon this rock of our salvation. Do not run to seek help from somewhere else other than in God through Christ Jesus the way the Truth and Life.   Be grounded and rooted in Jesus. Develop roots in Him; seek to know him more in his word.  Learn to search the scriptures in order to check if what you have been taught is in line with the Word. Make sure that what you are receiving is in line with the word of God.  Measure the teachings you receive against the word of God, Galatians 1:6-7.

Therefore whatever you say, do or think about should match with the truth which is found in the word of God.  Allow this truth to guide you.  There are so many teachings these days which are contrary to the Word of God but because we are ignorant of the word, we take what is false and believe it to be the truth as a result we get destroyed by it. Do not allow your ears to listen to anything except the truth, and do not allow people to speak false prophecies over your life yet they themselves do not live and stand on the truth. Hold on to the truth no matter what comes your way.

Benefits of knowing the Truth

Jesus Christ says that only the “the truth” shall set you free. Christ himself is the truth. Only the truth is able to crush any opposing power to set mankind free. The truth will set you free from telling lies or living a life of lies.
It will also set you free from the deception of the enemy and from all that which is evil and all that which is contrary to the word of God.

If the son of man sets you free you become free to enjoy what is pure and good, live a clean and holy life. You become free to communicate with God. You and I are free from whatever that is entangling us, destructive thoughts, actions, attitudes, evil speech, bad behaviour and all the snares of the devil.

The truth will also free us from ignorance which causes us to reject the truth of the gospel.  When we know the truth we are freed from embracing man-made doctrines, Mark 6:18.  We are also freed from sin if we embrace the truth, Ephesians 4:21-24. We shall receive the protection of God because his word will protect us, Psalm 91. This truth will help us to reach unity in faith and in the knowledge of the Son, Ephesians 4:12-13. Be able to discern what is good from bad. The truth will also enlighten us on the things of God and we shall walk circumspectly.

Conclusion

We must strive to desire and love the truth. Apply the truth in every situation, live the truth and be able to speak it, stand for the truth and try by all means to obey the truth then all our ways shall be prosperous and we shall be set free from all the devices or weapons of the enemy that are set up against us. We shall know the will of the Father if we embrace the truth.
