Pyramid schemes return
Police have warned member of the public about four companies that trade as pyramid schemes which target the church and public gatherings.
People should always know that if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is too good to be true.
However, it would seem that these schemes have refused to die down and one has to wonder why this is the case. How is it that even after a high profile individual ended up in jail for operating a pyramid scheme people are still gullible? Does this behaviour point to an even bigger problem in society? Are people that greedy that they prefer the easiest way out?
Or is it because our fellow Swazis are in such a precarious situation that they will accept and believe anything they are told? Pyramid schemes by their very nature are intended to benefit a few at the expense of the many who join them and the people only realise when it is too late that they have been duped.
It is unfortunate that money that could have been better utilised ends up in an unscrupulous individual’s pocket.
Fresh@Moneni Spar
This retail outlet has been awarded
for being the best in the lowveld distribution centre and countries in this zone are Swaziland, Mozambique and the Mpumalanga province in South Africa. The award is good for the country and puts her on the map.
It also shows the world what Swazis are capable of. Swazis should not be afraid to take risks and shy away from business.
The Spar Group has 22 companies and all of them are managed by Swazis. Other companies should take a leaf from this company and understand that such awards can only be achieved if you have empowered staff.
It is also heartening to see people venturing into business as Kwaluseni Supermarket has recently opened. Initiatives such as these are encouraged because they provide the country with much needed employment opportunities and prove that Swazis are capable of holding their own if given the opportunity to do so.
Transport industry salary hike
While we are pleased that truck drivers and kombi drivers will get a substantial salary increment, it should be said that the transport industry needs to be regulated and standardised.
Public transport drivers and conductors should bear in mind that while they enjoy their improved salaries, their attitudes and behaviour towards commuters should also improve.
A large number of people rely on public transport to get to their destinations and those who service these vehicles should be mindful that commuters deserve better service and with the standardisation of this industry this is likely to happen.
On another note, kombi owners have come out to say they cannot afford the percentage so it would be interesting to see where the money to pay for these increments will come from.
Should commuters brace themselves for a looming fare hike? This is probably the last thing we need as our salaries are already overstretched. This could just be the last straw that broke the camel’s back.
