MOVING BEYOND RESOLUTIONS
Is 2014 your year to dream bigger? As we start another year, do not lose that wide-eyed intrepid attitude because it is useful in that it allows your imagination to run wild. It allows you to dream big and that is a great starting point.
However, we need to move beyond making resolutions to putting dreams into motion. Start by mapping small and large aspirations into a broader context. Trust me, this will give your dream of success real meaning.
And what if we all had dreams that linked us into a matrix of our collective gifts, combined talents and shared visions?
Essentially, while refining your personal narrative seems selfish on the surface when your reputation and influence grow, the hope of the hopeless can be carried with you. In 2014, those of us who have been blessed with resources and networks must go further than creating personal goals to cultivating goals for your community and thus the nation.
Launching your own ‘2014 mission’ is easy. You’ll need to engage three fundamental areas; firstly, document your dreams for yourself. Secondly, outline how your dreams impact on your community. Finally, be clear on who and what inspires you towards these dreams.
Of course, your dreams are much larger than the next 365 days and will, in many cases, take far longer than a year to achieve. However, short-term self-centred goal-setting is precisely why New Year’s resolutions are fragile and the majority are abandoned quickly.
So share your dream. When you expand the scope of your dream and share your inspiration, you and those you care about become more vested in it.
Are you worried others may steal your ideas? Well, sure, but in the open-source world in which we live in, the opportunities provided by inspired dreams far outweigh the risk of that happening.
It’s always important to protect your dreams but you don’t have to keep them a secret; just do what restaurants do by keeping recipes a secret and protect the key features.
The question is, how do you know what to dream about? Well, your intuition and guts, coupled with market analysis, should fuel your focus. You have to trust in something; your destiny, life, karma, whatever.
This approach will never let you down; instead, it will make all the difference in your life.
Take your passion as the motivating force of those dreams or fantasies and begin to formulate a concrete plan.
All successful men and women are big dreamers.
They imagine what their future could be, ideal in every respect, and they work every day towards that distant vision, goal or purpose. But if we cannot imagine it, it can never materialise. Without dreaming, we can never venture outside the box.
Dreaming is serious business. Imagine what would have become of the American Civil Rights Movement if Martin Luther King had not listened to his guts and dreamt of a post racial society? Every great dream begins with a dreamer.
Always remember as we start a new year that within you the strength, patience and passion to reach for the stars to change the world. All the best in health as you launch your personal brand, your dream
