The throne of grace

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need”.

Our advocate makes it possible for us to come boldly to the throne of grace in order to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need, Hebrews 4:16.  His service to us as our advocate provides us with a better hope, through which we draw near to God. Jesus is the only way to God according to John 14:6. We have an advocate (High Priest) who sympathises with our weaknesses, Hebrews 4:15.

Boldness to enter

We have boldness to enter into the holy of holies only through the blood of Jesus, our Advocate, who purchased all our salvation. Christ was pierced by the very same things that pierce us today. He was tempted in all points like we are tempted today but did not sin in any way.
Christ sits on a throne as a High Priest and his throne is a throne of grace.  That is why Hebrews 4:16 says “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need”. We are to come with reverence and godly fear, not as if dragged to the seat of justice, but as kindly invited to the mercy-seat, where grace reigns.

Invitation to all

The invitation of approaching the throne of grace is open to everybody irrespective of age, colour, education, religion and gender. If you need salvation you can approach this throne of mercy for the pardoning of your sins. If you need other things except salvation, you can also approach this throne of grace.
We have been invited to come boldly to the throne of grace. This is a throne of mercy because a merciful God sits on it. It is a throne of truth, righteousness and justice. A truthful, righteous and just. God awaits us to come to him in prayer and in worship for fellowship. This is God’s throne room, which is full of grace and kindness. Whatever your needs maybe, make your requests known to God through prayer and supplication.

How are we to come before GoD

One may ask this question, how are we to come before God?. We are to come respectful. Although we have been invited to come boldly to the throne of grace, it does not mean that we are to come disrespectful.
We should approach the throne of grace with complete obedience. Every parent is proud of an obedient child.  Obedient children sometimes get things they have not asked for because their parents favour them as a sign of appreciating them for their good behaviour. It would be a sign of disrespect to come before God and not confess your sins or faults if you have committed any, assume that he does not know or does not see.
Sin separates us from the presence of God. In other words, it causes us to be treated as wayward children, who have lost their inheritance because of our mis-behaviour. As children of God we need to draw near to the throne of grace confidently, not as if dragged to the seat of justice. Knowing that whatever we have asked from our father if it is in line with the will of God, we will receive it. Moreover, we are to come gladly because we know that at His presence we will find mercy and grace to help  in time of our need.

Draw near to God anytime

We are permitted to draw near to God anytime, even into his royal palace, into his secret chamber of grace. We can draw near to God at anytime convenient to us.
We should enter his throne room through prayer and praise to fellowship with him as part of the Royal Family. We should not be prodigal sons and daughters. We should be well behaved children who do not only come to the palace when we need something but come to the palace for fellowship or to pass our greetings to the Father.
As children of God we are not prohibited from asking anything from God but let us learn to approach our Father with thanksgiving. We must praise him for the things he has done for us and to worship him for what he is to us.
Psalm 22:3 states that God inhabits the praises of his children. As we praise God he comes down to inhabit our praises. It pleases God to hear us praise him.  He may even decide to give us other things which we need before asking him due to the fact that we appreciate him.
We are the King’s children, so we are allowed into the palace because of who we are. This is a privilege we should utilise and not misuse. We should strive by every means to enter the palace clothed in our royal robes (righteousness /purity) which distinguishes us from the people of the world.

We Need his Grace and Mercy

We need to come boldly because we need grace and mercy for the rest of our lives which is obtainable in the throne room of God. We need His grace to help us in our time of need.  We need God’s favour to aid us when we are in need.
We need his strength for the left leg of our Christian journey and we also need his canopy of protection upon our lives which is only found in Him.  Moreover, we need his Mercy in case we make mistakes or sin along the way as mortal beings. The Bible states that if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us then we receive God’s mercy.
Those who are not saved  need mercy for the pardoning of their sins (salvation). In every time of need, come to God your Father, who sits upon the throne of grace, come through Jesus Christ your Saviour, come through the merits of the blood and righteousness of Jesus Christ, and get the mercy and grace you need by the power of His Spirit.

CONCLUSION

When we approach God’s throne of grace, we find a loving, caring and a compassionate Father who is the Mighty Fortress in our time of need. The way to the throne of grace is made possible only through the blood of Jesus Christ. Who is the way, the truth and the life. Please choose to approach the throne of grace as you read this newspaper.
Do not let the privilege of coming before God pass by, while it is still time.  Seek him when he may be found.
Matthew 11:28 says “come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest”. As he has promised in his word he will surely give rest upon us if we come to him. He is a faithful God, he keeps his word. Come and find rest from the throne of Grace.
