The incident happened earlier this year and on Friday ‘Stopper’ (he has only been identified by his nickname to protect survivor) took to the dock before Principal Magistrate David Khumalo. His father and wife came to the court as witnesses and each gave an account of the incident as it was alleged that Masuku was caught in the act. It was also heard that the rape came after love proposals by ‘Stopper’ had been turned down by the woman. *Mimi, the wife, told the court that her stepson proposed love to her but she refused and told him that she took him as her own son. "He told me he loved me many times and I refused. He then told me I would love him by force. On the day of the incident, my husband was at work and I was just about to close the windows and breastfeed my daughter when the accused jumped in through the window," alleged Mimi. She said the accused rushed to her bed, threatened her with a knife and forcefully pinned her down and raped her. She said she was rescued by her husband, who heard her screams. "Upon making the discovery, my husband called the community police and neighbours, who then called the Royal Swaziland Police, who came and found that he had disappeared," Mimi alleged. The complainant said she was taken to the police station for a statement and then the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital where she was observed by a medical doctor. ...couple brings baby to court MANZINI - The couple shared parenting responsibilities during the court appearance as they would interchange in looking after their young daughter. The baby, whose age could not be ascertained, had come with the couple and when the time for the woman to testify came she left it with the old man and when he went in to testify she took care of her. When testifying, the old man had trouble recalling his exact age save to say he is around 70. The court asked that he presents his identity documents but he had not brought them with him. The mood was sombre as his testimony was punctuated by silent moments as he said he was still quite shocked that his own son could have done such. ‘...IF I WAS STRONG I WOULD HAVE HIT YOU WITH MY AXE’ MANZINI - The father of the man accused of raping his stepmother told the court that, if he was strong enough, he would have hit his son with an axe he was carrying on the day the incident happened. "How can you rape your own mother, my wife? What I say is that you are a disgrace and if I was strong enough I would have hit and killed you with the axe I was carrying," the old man said in court. He said he heard his wife screaming for help saying ‘inyandzaleyo’ and he ran to the house. "When I got there I tried to enter through the door to rescue my wife but it was locked and there was a drum just beneath the window. I climbed on the drum and peeked inside. I was shocked to find my son on top of my wife! I asked him ‘what are you doing to your mother? He just kept, quiet quickly put on his clothes and bolted out of the room. I then screamed ‘inyandzaleyo’ and community police came to help us," he said. He said his son fled from the area and was arrested some time later. The case was postponed to November 23, pending the setting of a trial date. ------------------------- Comments Kepha yena lomuntfu lomdzala kulomntfwana lomncane kangaka? Eyi...!
