This was revealed before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday. Blessing Mavuso was employed as an Assistant Accountant and was dismissed by the Civil Service Commission in a letter dated October 23, 2012. Mavuso has been a thorn in the flesh during the sittings of the PAC as it was revealed that she was allegedly involved in many fraudulent transactions within various government ministries including the Ministry of Agriculture and Tinkhundla Administration and Development. The PAC has since resolved to engage the Commissioner of Police to try and work with Interpol in an attempt to extradite Mavuso from Zimbabwe where she is believed to be residing. According to the letter of dismissal which was circulated by the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Finance Khabonina Mabuza to the PAC, Mavuso’s dismissal was effective as of October 11, 2012. The letter was signed by Chairperson on the CSC Peter Mamba. The letter states that following a report from the Accountant General that Mavuso was allegedly involved in fraudulent activities wherein she defrauded government money amounting to E132 397.77 and for absenting herself from duty since January 16, 2012 she had been invited to attend a disciplinary hearing on October 11, 2012. "Despite being invited to attend on October 11, 2012 you failed to attend or to inform the commission of the reasons for your failure to attend. The commission duly proceeded with the hearing in your absence," reads the letter. Mamba said the commission considered the submissions of the Accountant General and was of the view that her misconduct was of a serious nature. "I am, therefore, directed that I inform you, as I hereby do, that you have been dismissed from the Public Service in terms of Section 36 (b) and (f) of the Employment Act, 1980 with effect from October 11, 2012," reads the letter. The PAC was also forwarded another letter of dismissal of one Sibongiseni Cyril Sithole who was alleged to have defrauded government an amount of E591 796.46. Sithole was dismissed on March 27, 2012 and was also dismissed under the office of the Accountant General.
