Times Of Swaziland: 50/50 CELEBRATED: THEN WHERE FROM HERE? 50/50 CELEBRATED: THEN WHERE FROM HERE? ================================================================================ By Musa Hlophe on 22/04/2018 07:24:00 Having set before my television in my modest house at KaLanga, Siteki with my family, my mind took me 32 years ago when our King took the oath of office. At that time, it is when he declared the anxieties when taking over the huge task of leading a modern Swazi Nation. He took the reins when the nation was still mourning the loss of their King Sobhuza II, whose death plunged their nation into chaos as thugs, led by people whom King Sobhuza II trusted so much but turned it to a dictatorship State. While watching the events that took place at the Mavuso Trade Centre, my mind was further taken back to the days of King Sobhuza II on how he went about creating international relations with all the democratic nations of the world; focussing mainly on trade relations as well as partnerships for development relations . This was later confirmed by Her Excellency, the President of China-on- Taiwan when she referred to a name some people hate me forever raising it whenever discussing the issues of this kingdom. She simply confirmed what I have always said through this column about King Sobhhza’s legacy from which we continue to reap the fruits of. King Sobhuza II’s legacy Recalling King Sobhuza II’s legacy is not something I do in order to undermine or despise my present King; a leader I have always respected each time I have had the privilege to sit before him. Whenever I had an opportunity to sit before His Majesty King Mswati III as one of his loyal subjects, I have always used such a privilege to talk truth to my King, who is a leader who has the greatest interest of seeing his people living a better life in the not so distant future. I have never withheld the truth of how he could do in order to achieve such a vision. I make sure that I convey such a message without assassinating the characters of those who lead his government. I do so because character assassination has never been my weakness nor shall it ever be until I die. The last time I had the privilege to talk to my King was in 2014 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, when attending that year’s Annual General Meeting of the Smart Partnership. The then Minister Lutfo Dlamini had told His Majesty the King that I wanted to say goodbye as I had already retired from the FSE&CC . What a chance away from the environment in which we , the ordinary citizens and subjects of His Majesty are isolated by those faceless cabals who believe that he cannot benefit from having a discussion with us who are from the lower castes. I took that opportunity with extreme enthusiasm, but calmly, promising my King that despite having retired from work, I was to continue my membership of the CPTM, because it had been them who had brought me to Malaysia. My King agreed hence to this day I have not broken my ties with CPTM, notwithstanding the fact that our local hub behaves as though I did not exist. Therefore, seeing His Majesty celebrating his own 50th birthday and 32 years of his leadership of the country which his father liberated 50 years ago simply made me look up to the heavens and thanked our God for leading this nation to the historic day. I was happy with what he said about the Republic of China-on- Taiwan. I agreed with him when he said that the world is unfair in seeking to force a legitimate state to be swallowed by one of the worst dictatorships in the world- Communist China. To me, such a misguided demand is like Morocco telling the African Union to ignore its subjugation of The People’s Republic of Western Sahara- a demand which the AU has rightly rejected.
