SWAKI SCULPTURE WINNERS GET PRIZES

EZULWINI – The 10 winners of the SWAKI Sculpture were officially presented
with their prizes yesterday morning at the Corner Plaza by the company.
The prize giving ceremony was graced by Phila Nkosi who was the representative
of the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Senator Mike Temple,
Member of Parliament Michael Masilela, the Chief Executive Officer of the
Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC), Stanley Dlamini and one
of the Directors of SWAKI, Alex Mngomezulu.
Mngomezulu who was speaking on behalf of one of the directors stated that the
company had been a supporter of arts in Swaziland for many years.
“We have been active in the support of arts and culture in the Kingdom,
including the annual Swaki Schools Festival, Bushfire Crafts exhibitions and
more recently, donations towards the ‘Women’s Voices’ project with Yebo
Gallery and Land Art sculptures with Big Game Parks.”
He explained that the only thing that fuelled them to support arts in the
country is because they believed that a nation without art is one without a soul
and without freedom.
The director appreciated the work done by SNCAC to advance the cause of the
artists in the Kingdom and for the remarkable efforts of individuals such as the
Armstrong family of Yebo Art Gallery, for their support and words of
encouragement to the artists.
Mngomezulu also congratulated the winners and said, “We congratulate you for
your thought-provoking designs.
We hope by winning, this will begin or at best fuel a great artistic adventure
in your life and that you will build from today and aim high.”
The director was followed by the SNCAC CEO who started off by saying that all
people present were part of history in the making, as he had never seen or heard
any company offering such a huge amount as a grand prize.
