Times Of Swaziland: IT’S MY FIRST TIME TO SELL 5 000 COPIES IN 35 YEARS - MSHIKISHI IT’S MY FIRST TIME TO SELL 5 000 COPIES IN 35 YEARS - MSHIKISHI ================================================================================ BY NHLANHLA MATHUNJWA on 12/01/2017 22:55:00 MBABANE – It has taken over 35 years for Mbaqanga music legend Mshikishi Mndzebele to sell as many as 5 000 copies of his album. Mndzebele, who is famously known as ‘Gorilla Man’ has been in the industry for over 35 years but has been failing to improve in his sales. It is only his eighth album that has done him wonders. His album which has a song titled ‘Monarchial Democracy’, which talks about the country’s governing system, has seen him sell his highest number of copies in his career history. Mshikishi has been hand delivering his CD to his fans and other Mbaqanga music lovers who have been faithful when it comes to paying him on time, as some would request delivery but pay later. All along, he has been recording but not receiving many sales until now, whereby people started realising that he was one artist who has stood the test of time in the industry. Mshikishi confirmed that ever since he started singing he has never sold so many CD’s. “I still do not believe what I am seeing. The album was only released in November 2016 but now I have sold over 5 000 copies. For me this is amazing and I am still shocked. In my over 20-year career I have never sold so many copies and do believe its the democracy song that gained me so many fans,” he said. Delivering He said he has been delivering the album to his fans that have been supporting him. “I currently have no distributing company. I have been distributing the copies myself. This tells me that if I had a company responsible for the distribution, I would have reached gold status.”
