Times Of Swaziland: MBABANE CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY CROWNS 2017 FRESHER’S BEST MBABANE CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY CROWNS 2017 FRESHER’S BEST ================================================================================ BY NHLANHLA MATHUNJWA on 27/03/2017 07:45:00 SIDVOKODVO – It is now a norm that the crowning of the freshest student at universities around the country is done way past the midnight hour. Friday night was no different as students partied the night away at Tums Waterworld, while patiently waiting for the pageant to start. Computer Science student Luyanda Msibi and Thandeka Simelane who is a pharmaceutical sciences student were in the early hours of Saturday, crowned Mr and Miss Mbabane Christian University ‘Freshest’ king and queen. The two won the hearts of the judges and students alike, who screamed in agreement when the two were announced as the eventual winners. The competition was tight as all the students who participated were confident and it was clear they came with one intention, and that was to win. The Mr Fresher’s pageant saw 12 male students taking part while the Miss Fresher’s only had 13 young ladies vying for the crown. The pageant started just after 10pm, and students walked down the ramp in casual wear at first, followed by their evening and introduction phase. As the contestants walked down the ramp, the audience would make their own choices for winners known, by screaming out their names. While the final judgment lay with the judges, the students made sure to scream their choices near the judges’ table so they could be heard. As they walked on stage, the judges would score points for each and everyone, based on confidence while walking, poise at the end of the ramp and interaction with the audience plus eye contact with judges. No questions are asked during the fresher’s ball events anymore as according the organisers, it is not really a beauty pageant but one for the new students who have made an impact in the school by being popular. The contestants were asked to introduce themselves and thereafter paraded in front of the judges. It was just not an easy task for the judges as to pick the final winner. They would take a decision and revisit again.
