Times Of Swaziland: MZWAKHE MYENI NEW ACASWA PRESIDENT MZWAKHE MYENI NEW ACASWA PRESIDENT ================================================================================ BY NHLANHLA MATHUNJWA on 31/10/2017 08:45:00 MANZINI – He wept uncontrollably soon after he was announced as ACASWA President. ACASWA is the acronym for the Association of Christian Artists in Swaziland. Gospel artist Mzwakhe Myeni was overwhelmed by emotions as he cried minutes after being announced as the new leader of Swazi gospel artists. The former Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors member had most artists voting for him during the elections held at the Manzini Library on Sunday. For the first time this year, artists came in their numbers for the ACASWA meeting as about 100 artists attended. The artists seemed to have come prepared as they stayed for over eight hours, to make sure their voices were heard. It is not the first time for Myeni to become the association’s president as he once led the association between the year 2009 and 2010. He tendered his resignation hardly a year after being elected without citing any reasons. Conducting the elections was Thulani Ngwenya, who announced that each artist would be given a chance to vote freely. Successes The artists waited patiently as the elections started just after 6pm. Before the elections, the outgoing committee led by Zakhele Ginindza gave a yearly report. The artists were informed of the committee’s successes and failures. However, it was evident that the artists were not interested in the report , as they shouted for the elections to resume. Nominating Myeni was his wife Khanyisile who is also a solo artist. He competed with Frans Dlamini who was also a strong candidate for the presidential position. The artists used a secret ballot and this was done specifically to make sure that the results were fair. Before the artists were allowed to cast their votes, the contenders were each given a five minutes to say what they would do for the artists if they led the association. It is where Myeni won the hearts of most artists as he told them that he was an experienced music producer who has worked with a number of artists who include the late Lundi Tyamara and Andile Kamajola. He also told the artists that he had also produced a number of artists locally and he believes he was the right person to be voted for, as he would assist in advancing their careers. These was received by applause from the artist, and made Myeni the eventual winner while Frans Dlamini came second and he automatically became the Vice-President. Soon after Myeni was announced as president, he broke down and cried. While other artists comforted him other artists did not understand why he was crying. Among those who congratulated him after becoming the winner was his siblings and former Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors members, Timothy and Thabile Myeni. Myeni thanked all the artists who voted for him saying he would try to be an example as he leads the association.
