This adage proved true to Eswatini-born internationally acclaimed opera singer Lwazi Dlamini. He has been recognised by Elisabeth Manduell, who is an Operatic assistant director, producer, and singer from Cape Town Opera. Dlamini was among the talented artists from different countries performing at Artscape Theatre Centre, which is the main performing arts centre in Cape Town, South Africa. The show, which was dubbed ‘The Pearl Fishers’ by Bizet, allowed Dlamini to perform alongside William Berger, Noluvuyiso Vuvu Mpofu, Lukhanyo Moyake, Thesele Kemane and Brittany Smith. Manduell thanked Dlamini and his colleagues through her post for the support and for delivering an electrify performance. “To the artists, you guys make the job much more enjoyable. Pleasure “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you all, to learn from you, to brainstorm with you and to create magic with you. Let’s do it again soon,” read the post. Speaking to Dlamini, he expressed his excitement and shared that the current COVID-19 pandemic has halted his plans. “Working with talented people has been amazing. I also learnt a lot from them. The event was bliss and I was able to represent my country,” he said. He went on to share that he would be having more performances in Cape Town. “I am looking forward to other sets as I am based in South Africa. I would also like to thank opera music lovers from Eswatini for the support they have shown, “he added. It is worth noting that Dlamini has also worked with Cape Town Opera, which is a company that helps groom young artists to be ready for the professional world, providing them with more performing experience and sharpening their skills into perfection. It also provides international tours, productions, concerts as well as coaching’s. Emerging He has been part of Berlin Opera Academy which is the premier European opera training programme providing practical professional instruction to emerging artists. Dlamini is not the first liSwati to hoist the country’s flag in opera music. Talented Thando Zwane has taken home a number of titles including the best Audience Prize at Les Azuriales Opera International 2019 Opera Singing Competition’ in France. Dlamini has also graced a number of stages in Italy. Eswatini National Choral Music Association (ENCMA) Chairperson Sihle Gumbi said this was great news for the whole of Eswatini. “The choral music fraternity is very proud of Lwazi. Solo participants always shine and I can confidently say that as an association we are working on doing something for singers.
