MBABANE - splendid!
After a splendid performance and pulling in quite a crowd, Twilight Theatre
Concepts was invited to visit the Eswatini National Arts and Culture offices in
order to speak more about having regional plays similar to the one titled
‘Woza Albert’.The world-acclaimed theatre play titled ‘Woza Albert’
premiered on Friday evening at the Theatre Club in Mbabane, which saw a full
house of attendees who were blown away by South African multi-award-winning
actors Hamilton Dhlamini and Thulani Mtshweni.
The duo brought to life various characters from the apartheid era during the
play, which addressed oppression, labour related issues, survival, separation of
families between SA homelands and the cities, poverty, homelessness, police
brutality and political imprisonment. The two talented actors kept the full
house captivated with their colourful one hour and 30-minute performance. After
the pair’s brilliant performance, various individuals were given the platform
to address the full house and those included actor voiceover artist and 23:28
lounge owner, Thembinkhosi Mthethwa, and Eswatini National Arts and Culture CEO,
Stanley Dlamini, among others.
During his speech, Dlamini stressed how other local regions were missing out on
a lot of skills, especially because the second day included a workshop  where
the  two SA actors trained other aspiring actors. “After watching such an
amazing play and noticing that only Mbabane was going to receive such a
privilege, I would like to invite Twilight Theatre Concepts to the Arts and
Culture offices so we can find ways to take this play regional,” said Dlamini.
He further emphasised that this was going to give even people in rural areas an
opportunity to explore such. Larry Mhlanga of Twilight Theatre Concepts and
Ndlondlo Productions were thanked for bringing together the show and were
encouraged to keep up the good work. The play also illuminates the logic of a
plot in which South Africans seek the return of a saviour, Morena, who fulfills
the biblical prophecy that Jesus Christ will return.
The play’s title means ‘Rise Albert,’ referring to the deceased leader of
the African National Congress (ANC) and Nobel Peace Prize winner Albert Luthuli
and symbolising biblical prophecies that the dead will rise to join Jesus Christ
when he is resurrected. The play, which had begun exactly at 7pm, ended at
8:30pm p.m., and then fans of the actors were awarded the opportunity to take
pictures with them.
