Times Of Swaziland: NATHI GULE APPOINTED SAFREA CHAIRPERSON NATHI GULE APPOINTED SAFREA CHAIRPERSON ================================================================================ Mxolisi Dlamini on 11/07/2024 06:42:00 MBABANE – Seasoned freelancer, events MC and media consultant Nathi Gule has been appointed as the new Southern African Freelancers’ Association (SAfrea) Chairperson. This was during the annual general meeting (AGM) of Safrea held recently, where a new executive committee and oversight committee were elected to lead the organisation into its next chapter of growth and development. The newly-elected office-bearers of Safrea are Nathi Gule (Chairperson), Kay Johnstone (Vice-Chairperson) and Hush Naidoo (Treasurer). The portfolio leads are Mandi Smallhorne, Gudrun Kaiser, Safeeyah Kharsany and Ntsiki Jacobs. Safrea is a professional association of freelance workers in the media and communications industries. Members are writers, photographers, editors, social media managers, proofreaders, graphic designers, illustrators, researchers, translators and other experts in communication, who offer a broad range of skills and specialities. Recognition Founded in 1999, Safrea promotes the interests of freelance media specialists, campaigns to improve their professional standing and to make working as a freelancer more rewarding. During an interview with this publication, Gule shared he was honoured to have been recognised for the position citing that he hopes God will support him while occupying the position. “I feel greatly honoured and humbled by the recognition from my colleagues around southern Africa, for seeing me as qualifying to lead this valuable organisation that is 25 years old this year.‘‘There are some remarkable and experienced members at Safrea, top photographers, writers, graphic designers and videographers so this vote is really an honour and I thank God for their trust. I also look to God to help me with this great task,” Gule said. He further shared that the experience he got while serving under the organisation for the previous years will help him and the team to do what is expected of them. “Having been with the organisation for about five years and serving as part of the executive committee last year, has exposed me to its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. ‘‘Therefore, together with the able team we have and portfolios, we will be able to push to create a more beneficial organisation, that will be the freelance community of choice,” he said.
