MBABANE – The Open Chats Podcast secured an interview with the South African
Broadcasting Corporation 2 (SABC 2). This followed their win for ‘Best Podcast
of the Year’ at the South African Social Media Awards (SASMA). The Open Chats
Podcast has taken the country by storm with its candid and thought-provoking
conversations, sparking, discussions among young people on various topics. With
over 260 000 subscribers on YouTube Mthokozisi Methula and Sinothando Kama,
better known as Mtho and Sino are the hosts of the Open Chats Podcast.
Experiences
The hosts were interviewed by SABC 2, where they discussed their experiences in
podcasting compared to traditional media. “There is more freedom of speech on
the podcast. You can say whatever you like it is unscripted” they said. They
also discussed how the win has inspired their journey in podcasting. “The win
was proof that we are doing something, especially as underdogs in the podcasting
space. It is a significant acknowledgement in the podcasting industry and we
truly appreciate our subscribers they are the ones who made this achievement
possible” they said. Their podcast was nominated alongside MacG’s Podcast
and Chill, L-Tido Podcast, Mpoomy Ledwaba, Podcast and Chill’s Spreading
Humours, The Penuel Show and Wide Awake Podcast.

from clubbing, and girls to discussions about other YouTubers and TikTokers. The
podcast seems to have an audience that resonates with its content. Through these
discussions, the aim is to challenge norms, spark curiosity and encourage
critical thinking. As stated in their bio, the channel is designed by young
people for young people and its mission is to tackle pressing and engaging
societal topics, offering fresh perspectives with the help of various guest
speakers.
