Times Of Swaziland: Gospel songs a hit at Talent search competition Gospel songs a hit at Talent search competition ================================================================================ ENTERTAINTMENT REPORTER on 02/08/2010 00:00:00 SITEKI-Gospel music songs proved to be the in-thing once again during the Shine Music Talent Search Competition. This was during the Siteki auditions which took place at the town’s AMICAAL offices on Saturday. Out of the 31 aspiring singers who registered to try their luck, only four of them sang different kinds of music genres and the rest were doing traditional gospel songs. However it must be said that most of them have the singing talent and they sang so beautifully that the judges had a hard time coming out with the best 10. One of them who came dressed like a kasi boy (those who are associated with Kwaito music) shocked everyone when he burst into R.Kelly’s all time favourite song ‘If I could turn back the hands of time’ and sang it so well to impress the judges. No one could blame the judges who couldn’t stop laughing as they thought he was going to sing a kwaito song. The only letdown of the whole event was the fact that some of the aspiring singers did not know that the judges only wante vocalists not rappers so about three of them had to be turned back without even showcasing their talent. One of them had come with a trumpet but the judges told him in no uncertain terms that they wanted to hear him sing. Organiser of the competition Larry Mhlanga thanked the participants and encouraged those who didn’t make it not to lose hope but try again when the competition is re-introduced. The next stop is Nhlangano town this coming Saturday at the AMICAAL offices. The auditions are aired on Swazi TV every Tuesday at 8:30pm and this gives the public the chance to see how they are conducted and how the judges go about in their job as was witnessed last week on the social network Facebook.
