Times Of Swaziland: Rich, but totally insecure Rich, but totally insecure ================================================================================ Nompumelelo Dlamini on 12/09/2009 00:00:00 I pray that you may prosper as your soul prospers. One of the recurrent cases I’ m confronted with during my counselling sessions is fallow ground. One day came in the office a fairly wealthy man in his forties. Whenever I meet him in the streets he won’t greet me but wave. He changes cars, but has a favourite black one; I remember how he told me that you have not driven a car if you haven’t driven a black one. He doesn’t like coming to the office, he is extremely conscious of what people will say let alone know that he is coming for counselling. Well this day he decided to come, at first I questioned the boldness but later I realised that it was a desperate situation. Before he started let’s address this issue, everybody knows that people can reject you as an individual but will not reject you if your source of attraction is money. Happiness Money is no means of acceptance, because if you ride on this horse it will get you now where, besides you will always know that people are around you because of what you have. Now that is painful and there is no happiness in having fake relations with people. I began to listen; rejection is the cause of all, earlier I talked of fallow ground, uncultivated, dry ground. You can never saw a seed of life in that dryness, it will never amount to anything. Other people face rejection as early as childhood. Their mother would prefer one over the other and their father would totally reject their mother, or their father would reject them and seeds of rejection are planted from that age. All of a sudden their way of thinking would embrace rejection as a way of life. Insecurities would cloud them and they would lose a sense of belonging and wholeness. Freedom As a result, they would go around searching for acceptance and would even want to purchase it. The truth is money can never buy you your freedom; I’m talking about liberty of the soul, mind and spirit. You can have millions but no peace. People do feel rejected when somebody dies and leave them. They do feel rejected also when somebody they loved leaves them for someone else. From their perspective that person is deemed wealthy or better than them. As a result they begin to thrive to be enhanced so that they can never be rejected again. They begin to make that their ultimate goal in life to be larger than life, and live their lives above everyone else. They will work extremely hard to be rich and afford everything and everyone that they want. Rejection So because they know how ago-nising rejection is, they reject others because the pain of being rejected never left them. When I think about it this actually becomes subconscious revenge mission. The ground is still fallow, for instance a man who has never dealt with his own pain, no matter how rich he can become, and he will still walk around with that wound. His soul will live in fear of the same thing happening again as long as he lives. This is because he thinks he will never be accepted for who he is, so people will accept him for what he has. The truth is he knows that half the time they do not really love him for who he is; in fact they don’t love him at all, even if they did. He wouldn’t believe it, because at the back of his mind, he thinks he is a reject. They say we watch too many movies as if their depiction of matters is not real. In my country things that are meant to be happening in the movies happen in reality. It’s as if somebody stood up and declared that whoever rises up to be rich will inevitably be extremely emotionally insecure and their souls will be buried in fear. But of course being rich is different from being prosperous. You can be rich but not prosper in other areas of your life; you can be wealthy but lonely and attention seeking. It will never be enough that you drive the latest cars but greed will overwhelm you and you will want to have it all like a toddler who wants to have all the toys and never share. Rich Acceptance changes lives, look a life of a rich man who meets someone and all of a sudden that person is not interested in his money but is interested in healing the inner man, liberating his soul and loving him unconditionally, doing the unexpected the one thing which motivated him to make lots of money all of a sudden he gets that for free. That is a life changing principle. Doing the unexpected, reassures hope in people’s lives. It makes them believe that after all there is still a glimpse of love, hope and peace in this world...It is like shining a light in the darkness, darkness which had prevailed in their lives for many years. Christ‘s mission on earth is that as your soul becomes free, you become rich. He died for freedom of your soul, to give you peace. So that even as you become rich, you can be prosperous in all your ways.
