Times Of Swaziland: RETRACT STATEMENT PM RETRACT STATEMENT PM ================================================================================ The Editor on 21/04/2020 07:02:00 Sir, Kindly allow me to register my disappointment at the recent statements by the country’s prime minister when he was asked about the use of violence by the security forces on unarmed civilians while enforcing the COVID-19 regulations. The prime minister was heard saying that the police will continue dealing with people who do not adhere to COVID-19 regulations. Mr Editor ingabe uyasinikela yini prime minister? Careless Such statements are very careless and irresponsible to come from a person who is in the position of a prime minister and a minister in charge of the police. I must say he spoke out of turn and like someone who is ignorant of the country’s laws and the human rights enshrined in the Constitution of this beautiful kingdom. The highest authority in the land always preaches the gospel of peace, and if these irresponsible statements by the PM are left unchecked, then we are all promoting anarchy. Recovering As I wrote this letter, a number of our people were recovering from gruesome beatings by the security forces personnel. Eswatini is not an island as we live in a global community; the world is watching and even if we can ignore this today, the world will still be watching. These unfortunate statements by a respected leader of this beautiful kingdom will remain for decades and our next generation will know about them as they were widely broadcasted on YouTube and other social media platforms. It will be at the best interest of government and the citizens of this country for the Prime Minister’s Office to make a statement so that we know that it was not a deliberate move to promote violence against unarmed civilians and pouring salt on the wounds of those who have already fallen victim to this inhumane treatment. The world awaits a responsible call from the PM to withdraw this appalling statements. The country is at war with one enemy and it is not the citizens of this kingdom but the COVID-19 pandemic. Disappointed citizen
