Times Of Swaziland: COMPULSORY DNA TESTS SHOULD APPLY COMPULSORY DNA TESTS SHOULD APPLY ================================================================================ Editor on 23/08/2024 08:03:00 Sir, It is questionable but quite interesting that there can be so much hullabaloo over compulsory DNA tests before men are subjected to child maintenance. What other more effective preventive measures could be applied at this rate of gender-based violence (GBV)? Failed The discussion is here because that has failed with the parties involved. We are here now, and the problem is the spill of aggravated anger. If men are not listened to, the problem shall persist. We don’t like to be bullied into supporting a child and later be brazenly told it’s not yours. Women have the laws backing them while men have the laws condemning them. That must be resolved, period. On the other hand, it is said that we are equal, but once it is about marital issues, that equality seems to fly out of the window. Where is that equality on these matters? It’s not nice when men slaughter women. Let us be reasonable and objective here. These women speak irresponsibly and derogatory to the supposed fathers as if they are not part of the puzzle at this stage of the care of the child because the laws winks an eye here. Let both parties be equally responsible. Mandatory DNA tests should be implemented. We must push government to support this course if it is genuinely concerned about this GBV scourge. Government should not to be quick to pass punitive laws, but provide corrective measures. Society is shaped by laws passed by government. The prevailing societal behaviour is produced by poor governance, period. Solutions please not debates.
