Times Of Swaziland: STOP PROTECTING CRIMINALS IN ESWATINI STOP PROTECTING CRIMINALS IN ESWATINI ================================================================================ Editor on 12/11/2024 07:59:00 Sir, Allow me to mention this in our country. We cannot be happy throughout our lives, which is why some people are crying. Whether we want to admit it or not, our parents invest a lot in our well-being, and it is expected that we will return the favour at some stage. You are groomed to become a responsible adult, someone who becomes a provider, not a ‘tsotsi’.To put a stop to crime, ordinary Swati citizens need to help the police, and the families of thugs need to stop protecting them. Some time ago, there were reports of two teenagers who attacked their grandparents, somewhere at the LaMgabhi Inkhundla. Protecting Why does a community allow such things to happen to elderly people? Why are they not protecting them? Where are the community police? What is their community duty? The work of the police would come to nothing if residents did not help them fight crime in Eswatini. To defeat crime, residents need to report criminals to the police, regardless of who they are. What is the role of our imiphakatsi if bad things are done in their community? Let us not sleep with heavy hearts. Let us not put ourselves in difficult positions where we have to defend a grandchild who is causing havoc in the community, grandparents. We must stop defending the indefensible. Some of our elderly parents and grandparents were on medication for high blood pressure, due to the stress their children and grandchildren caused them by committing crimes. Crime Crime affects us all. EmaSwati blame the government and police for crime being out of control, but the only way to stop it is for everyone to get involved in the fight against it. If you do not want to act, you too are going to be victims of crime. The mental aspect is a very critical one that needs to be handled with care. There are situations that occur in some areas where you see an old man shedding tears and heads dropped. That is a painful situation for everyone to experience. But how do you deal with it? If the community alone cannot curb crime, then we are fighting a losing battle. Can you reverse the bad situation? No! It is done; there is nothing anyone can do about it. Grandparents are not enjoying their pension money as they have to take their grandchildren to school, while their parents spend their grant money on booze and drugs. Guide As a society, Eswatini must come together to help guide our young people. As the elderly, we must stand up against this. It amounts to abuse, and we must not allow this to continue. Bekugekho ko loku itolo in Eswatini! Community police and the rest of the community have to stand together to fight crime in Eswatini. Where is Parliament? What is it saying? What is their duty? We all know the criminals in our areas, but we keep protecting them. It is high time the residents started working with the police and providing them with information. The police cannot win the fight against crime on their own. If I am not mistaken, I do not remember them winning without society’s help. Yindzaba yetfu sonkhe lena Eswatini. It must be addressed.
