Times Of Swaziland: DIRTY SNACKS SOLD TO KIDS DIRTY SNACKS SOLD TO KIDS ================================================================================ Editor on 21/11/2024 09:30:00 Sir, I recently watched an investigative programme on TV where they found pseudo businesspeople manufacturing snacks that are for sale to children in schools. The businesses were found operating in slum like workshops behind their filthy outlets. It was horrifying to discover that our children are eating dirty and contaminated food. Since we have no company manufacturing such snacks in Eswatini, there is reason to believe these dirty snacks also infiltrate our market. I think the best solution is to stop these snacks at entry points. We must now allow them in, especially in the era of health challenges. One contagious disease can easily lead to lockdowns and economic turmoil. Our children need to eat snacks packaged safely. We must ensure that these companies are also authorised to sell and trade in food. The pictures I saw in the investigative programme were horrible in that some of these businesses even used their feet to process the snacks. Consuming I have also been informed that some fizzy drinks are made in these workshops. One may think he is consuming a favourite drink, yet it is the filth that these businesspeople make and serve to our people. Consumers must be careful if these businesspeople sell to them extremely cheap food stuffs. Pricing is the first sign of possible counterfeighting. We must stop this at early possible stages, before people get sick. Recently, it was said that dog meet was also included in worse to increase its weight. This is also a terrible development, because no one would sacrifice his healthy dog for this. It means the stray dogs are being used for this purpose. Eventually, when dogs go for rabbies vaccination, the people must also get the shot. Let us do something to protect the food that we ear and deal with the capitalists in a decisive manner. Lomanjonjo
