Times Of Swaziland: THIS IS NOT THE END THIS IS NOT THE END ================================================================================ Teacher M on 10/02/2025 08:05:00 Sir, Today marks a significant day for students across Eswatini as the Form V results are released For many, it’s a day of celebration, marking the culmination of years of hard work and the gateway to exciting new opportunities. However, for others, the results may not be what they hoped for, leading to feelings of disappointment, anxiety and even despair. This letter is addressed to all Form V pupils, particularly those who may not have achieved the results they desired, as well as their parents and the wider community. To the Form V pupils who are celebrating today, congratulations! Your hard work and dedication have paid off and you should be immensely proud of your achievements. This is a significant milestone and I wish you all the best as you embark on the next chapter of your lives. However, I also want to speak directly to those pupils who may be feeling discouraged or disheartened by their results. Know that you are not alone. Many students experience setbacks and challenges along their educational journey. Define Your results do not define you as a person, nor do they determine your future success. It’s crucial to remember that there are always alternative paths to achieve your goals. Eswatini offers a range of options for pupils who may not have passed their Form V exams. Retaking the exams is one possibility, allowing you to strengthen your understanding of the material and improve your results. Vocational training programmes offer practical skills and knowledge that can lead to fulfilling careers in various fields. Consider exploring opportunities like the Vocational and Skills Training or other technical colleges. These programmes can equip you with valuable skills that are in high demand in the job market. Apprenticeships are another excellent option, providing hands-on experience and the opportunity to learn a trade while earning a living. Many local businesses offer apprenticeships in various sectors, giving you a chance to gain practical skills and build your career. Don’t underestimate the power of hard work, determination and a willingness to learn. Your future is still full of possibilities. I want to emphasise in the strongest possible terms that suicide is never the answer. If you are feeling overwhelmed or hopeless, please reach out for help. Talk to a trusted family member, friend, teacher or counsellor. Guidance There are also mental health support services available in Eswatini that can provide guidance and assistance. Remember, you are valued, you are loved and there is always hope, even in the darkest of times. Your life is precious and there are people who care about you and want to support you. To the parents of Form V pupils I understand that you share in your children’s joy and disappointment. It’s natural to want the best for your children and to feel invested in their academic success. However, it’s crucial to remember that your child’s worth is not determined solely by their exam results. A child’s failure in school does not mean that they or you, as a parent, are failures. Your love, support and understanding are more important now than ever. Encourage your children to explore the alternative paths available to them. Help them identify their strengths and interests and support them in pursuing their chosen path. Let them know that you believe in them, regardless of their results. Show them that you are there for them, no matter what. Your unwavering support can make all the difference in their ability to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential. The release of Form V results is a significant moment in the lives of young people in Eswatini. Let us come together as a community to support all students, celebrating their successes and offering guidance and encouragement to those who may be struggling. Let us remember that education is a journey, not a destination and that there are many paths to success. Let us work together to create a society where every young person has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
