MOM KILLS NEWBORN WITH WEEVIL TABLETS

PIGG’S PEAK – Yet another mother will have to answer for her actions in a
court of law after she allegedly fed her baby yoghurt laced with weevil tablets.
The minor died.
Nelly Maphosa, a 21-year-old woman, allegedly killed her newborn baby after an
alleged dispute with the father of the minor.
It is alleged that the woman fed the child yoghurt laced with the weevil tablet,
which eventually killed the baby.
Though newborn babies normally do not feed on substances even as smooth as
yoghurt, the 21-year-old is said to have done this to mask the bitterness of the
weevil tablet.
Naturally though, newborns suckle on anything that touches there mouth.
The gruesome incident is said have happened around Nkamanzi, an area under
Ndzingeni constituency.
After the baby had died, Maphosa is said to have then buried the body in a
shallow grave.
The incident is said to have occurred towards the end of May or early June, but
no one knows the exact date.
According to a resident from the area, they noticed that though she had been
pregnant, she did not have a baby.
“Everyone was shocked because she no longer had a baby yet her pregnancy had
been visible,” said a resident.
He said Maphosa continued with normal activities, adding that no one could
figure out what she had done to the baby.
The residents were, however, shocked when they noticed some dogs in the area
carrying what appeared to be human flesh.
It is alleged the dogs had dug up the shallow grave in which the body had been
buried.
This raised suspicion that this could be Maphosa’s baby as she was the only
one who had been pregnant.
