Times Of Swaziland: CENSUS STAFF LIVID AS SOME NOT PAID CENSUS STAFF LIVID AS SOME NOT PAID ================================================================================ BY SIBONGILE SUKATI on 26/09/2017 04:19:00 MBABANE – It was ‘a tale of two cities’ for census enumerators as some of them smiled all the way to the bank while others were left red faced. This was after the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development yesterday finally started rolling out the payment of the officers who were supposed to have been paid in June 2017. However, not all were paid. A classic example occurred at Emvimbeko High School under Ntondozi Inkhundla where only nine of the enumerators were paid. About 40 of the staffers, mainly youths had come eagerly expecting their much awaited cheques only to be told to that there were none for them. A proper explanation was not forwarded to them and instead the three male officers who had come with the nine cheques told them that they would investigate what had happened to their payment. “We are livid because once again some of us borrowed money for transport, instead we are now being faced with more debts,” complained one of them. The ministry, through the Statistics office, had issued a list of all the centres where they would be making payments starting yesterday until Friday, September 29, 2017. The enumerators further said those who received payment were disappointed by the amount of money they received as it was far less than what they were initially promised.
