MINISTER UNCLEAR OVER  SPTC MD’S CONTRACT

LOBAMBA – “A person whose contract has come to an end must go home.”
These were the words of Minister of Information Communication and Technology
(ICT) Dumisani Ndlangamandla when responding to questions from senators on what
was happening regarding the contract of the managing director of the Swaziland
Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC), Petros Dlamini.
This was during the debate of the ministry’s portfolio committee for the first
quarter of the current financial year.  It was Senator Meninjeni Mahlalela who
asked for an explanation on whether Dlamini’s contract had been extended or
not.
Mahlalela said he was asking because Dlamini had done a lot for the parastatal
having taken over when it was going through challenges.
The minister first explained that such issues were between the employer and
employee and highlighted that it was the board that was expected to act on the
matter.
He mentioned that he recently enquired about the same issue as he did not
understand how an individual who did not have a contract would wake up and go to
work.
“If an individual has no contract but continues going to work who does he
expect to pay him? This means there is some irregularity somewhere because I
don’t get as to what instrument is being used to continue allowing such a
person to be in office,” he said.
Ndlangamandla then insisted that people whose contracts expire or come to an end
should go home.  Interestingly, Dlamini was also present during the debate and
was sitting just a few metres from the minister.
