CANCER PATIENT NEEDS OVER E660 000 FOR CHEMOTHERAPY

MBABANE – Yet another cancer patient is lying helplessly at the Mbabane
Government Hospital due to lack of funds to undergo chemotherapy in neighbouring
South Africa.
Lungile Ncobile Maziya, a second-year student at the Swaziland College of
Technology (SCOT), had her appointment scheduled for April 16, 2018. She was
admitted to the Mbabane Government Hospital on March 30, 2018.
Lungile (29) is studying Human Resource Management and as a result of her
ailment, has missed examinations which started on April 23 until this Friday.
She was diagnosed with Thrombocytopenia cancer (cancer of the blood) and
requires over E660 000 for her treatment. She has missed the appointment because
of financial constraints.
A letter written by Curo Oncology to Phalala Fund informs them of her next
appointment, which she has missed.
The letter, which has been signed by Dr Karen Motilall, is requesting assistance
on behalf of the patient to return for her chemotherapy treatment booked on the
mentioned date.
Due to her condition and challenge, her family has come out to plead with
members of the public, organisations and the business community, to lend a
helping hand.
Lungile’s calamity began in February when she suffered from continuous
headaches and her arms were also painful. When she went to hospital, she was
told that her cells had developed cancer and as a result has been surviving
through blood transfusion since then.
This is because her body had not been able to make enough platelets which
resulted in blood disorder.
Documents which this newspaper is in possession of revealed that the quotations
from Curo Oncology in South Africa amounted to a total of E660 314.46.
