During a press conference hosted by the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) yesterday, it was announced that the nomination for the general elections of members of the House of Assembly, Tindvuna Tetinkhundla and Bucopho would take place on Saturday July, 28, 2018 and Sunday, July 29, 2018. The nomination shall take place at all the designated chiefdoms, polling divisions and Tinkhundla centres, starting at 9am. For the special voting, the exercise will take place on Tuesday, August 14, 2018. The special voting is meant to give the opportunity to EmaSwati who would not have time to participate during the official nomination date due to different reasons. These include people who are based outside the country, and the staff who are working during the election process, including the police.EBC Chairman Chief Gija announced at the press conference that the primary elections would take place on Saturday, August 18, 2018, starting at 7am until 7pm. “These will be followed by the count ring and announcement of the results which will be done soon after the closing of the election,” the chairman said. e stated that the days between Sunday, August 19, 2018 and Thursday, September 20, 2018 have been set for the introduction and campaigning of the candidates who would be standing for the secondary elections. Special voting is set for Monday, September 17, 2018. On the other hand, the secondary elections have been scheduled to take place on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the different chiefdoms, polling divisions or Tinkhundla centres starting at 7am and closing at 7pm. The counting and announcement of the results would be done soon after the closing of the elections. On another note, the EBC stressed that the ongoing registration would not be extended. “The nation is reminded that the deadline is June 17, 2018 and we encourage everyone to register in the remaining days because we will not extend the deadline,” EBC Commissioner, Ncumbi Maziya emphasised.
