Times Of Swaziland: MP THREATENS TO KICK OUT SIKHANYISO, OTHERS MP THREATENS TO KICK OUT SIKHANYISO, OTHERS ================================================================================ BY SIBONGILE SUKATI on 19/02/2019 00:43:00 LOBAMBA – Motshane Member of Parliament (MP) Robert Magongo yesterday threatened to chuck out female parliamentarians who had not covered their hair. This was during the second sitting of the House of Assembly where the MP stood up on a point of order and said the legislators had agreed last week during the induction workshop on the accepted standard of dress code in the House. The legislators had agreed that female MPs would cover their heads in either head scarves, fascinators, flowers or any other piece of accessory including hats, unless they were in the traditional headwear (sicholo). The male MPs’ argument was that weaves or hair extensions did not qualify to be considered as hats or that the females head was covered in a respectful manner. combed The female MPs who did not have their hair covered included Home Affairs Minister Lindiwe Dlamini, who walked in with her natural hair which was combed back. Princess Sikhanyiso, the Minister of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) also did not have any form of cover on her head although she did have long curly hair extensions. Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Thuli Dladla also did not have a visible hair accessory to her hair extensions although she was seen protesting that the extensions were tied with a hair band. Out MP Magongo said come tomorrow, he would kick them out of the House. He was supported by Deputy Speaker Phila Buthelezi, who said the dress code did not only apply to clothes, but head gear. “Bomake abangahambi ngenhloko endlini,” he said.
