Times Of Swaziland: 2 DEAD, 3 CRITICAL IN LOZITHA CAR CRASH 2 DEAD, 3 CRITICAL IN LOZITHA CAR CRASH ================================================================================ BY KWANELE SIBIYA on 28/08/2019 00:57:00 LOZITHA- In a rather nasty accident, two people have lost their lives while three are still fighting for theirs in hospital. The accident occurred at Lozitha along the MR3 Highway at around 3pm yesterday. Information gathered from those who responded promptly after the accident was to the effect that the motor vehicle was speeding when all of a sudden one of its front tyres burst. The driver of the vehicle, a green Chevrolet sedan, is said to have attempted to apply brakes but to no avail as the car veered off the road and landed in a donga. Prior to landing in the donga, the motor vehicle overturned several times and ejected two passengers who were on board. Injuries The two were reported to have succumbed to the injuries sustained and are suspected to have died on the spot. Information gathered from a reliable source was that the five people, who were involved in the accident, are believed to be South African citizens who were visiting the country. This is also cemented by the fact that they were driving a South African registered car. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the accident and that two people have been certified dead while three are still fighting for their lives in hospital. The police mouthpiece also stated that police were still conducting investigations regarding the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, about two months ago, a movie-like car chase between police officers and a sedan left three people dead and one critically injured. This, after the driver of the sedan, a silver grey Honda Fit, lost control of it and it rammed into a marula tree. The accident happened on June 6, 2019 around 1am near a place known as Nduma, about 10 kilometres from Maphiveni Junction along the Lomahasha/Mbadlane public road also known as the MR3. The deceased were two men and a female passenger. Eyewitnesses claimed that the driver of the Honda Fit allegedly drove through a police roadblock despite being signalled to stop. It was alleged that the driver may have been afraid of being nabbed for drink-driving. Though eyewitnesses interviewed by this publication claimed they saw a police van trailing the Honda Fit, at high speed, the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) vehemently disputed this. At least three eyewitnesses, who claimed to have been nearby in their vehicles, claimed a police van was pursuing the Honda Fit.
