87% COVID-19 CASES INCREASE IN PAST WEEK

MBABANE - The country recorded an 87 per cent increase of COVID-19 cases this
past week.
Weekly COVID-19 statistics released by the Ministry of Health show that the
country recorded 60 confirmed cases of COVID-19. This is the highest number of
cases in three weeks since the increase became noticeable. On the week ended
October 31, 2022, the country recorded 32 cases while 60 were confirmed this
past week. This translates to an 87.5 per cent increase.  Eight healthcare
workers from Good Shepherd Catholic Hospital in Siteki were part of the 60
confirmed cases. According to Nhlanhla Nhlabatsi, an Epidemiologist in the
ministry, most of the cases were from the Manzini and Lubombo regions in the
past week. “In the past four weeks, we received a total of 182 Covid-19 cases.
Weekly COVID-19 cases have increased by 87.5 per cent during week 44 compared to
week 43,” he said.

There were 19 cases that were confirmed from the Lubombo Region and were
followed by 16 from the Manzini Region, 12 and 13 cases were from the Hhohho and
Shiselweni regions respectively. This means that 31 per cent of the cases came
from the Lubombo Region and the 20 per cent from Hhohho Region. In terms of
gender, Nhlabatsi stated that most of the confirmed cases were from females as
they constituted 66.3 per cent, while 33.7 per cent of them were males. Most of
these cases were from people between the ages of 30 to 39 years old.
