NHLANGNAO - A 14-month-old baby died after her mother gave her a poisonous
substance to ingest and later killed herself.
The incident happened on Monday at Qomintaba around Lavumisa in the Shiselweni
Region. It was established from a close relative, who did not want to be named,
that the 26-year-old woman went through her husband’s phone where she found a
message, allegedly from the man’s girlfriend and an argument ensued. It was
said that the following day, the woman, *Lindo, then went to her parental home
where she spent the day with her children and family. She is said to have headed
back to their house where upon arrival, she called her husband to tell her that
she would not find them alive.  The relative narrated that Lindo told her
husband to enjoy life with his new girlfriend.
Poisonous
It was said that the deceased was a mother of two and she tried to force her
five-year-old to drink the same poisonous substance, but he ran out of the
house, which was when she poisoned the 14-month-old and later ingested the same
substance and died. The husband is said to have received a call after the duo
was discovered dead. A comment from the deceased’s mother could not be sought
as her phone was off. Qomintaba Indvuna, who identified himself as Myeni said
they were shocked by the incident, though they could not divulge much on it as
the family had not officially reported it to them.  He stated, however, that
they were privy to what had happened. Chief Police Information and
Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the incident.
She confirmed that both the baby and the mother passed on.
