MKHULU (84) HANGS HIMSELF NEAR SHOP

MANZINI – An 84-year-old elderly man was found hanging from a tree after
committing suicide at Mkhulamini.
The discovery was made on Wednesday afternoon, when community members of
Mkhulamini launched a search for Mkhulu Makhutfulela after he disappeared on
Monday. He was said to have hanged himself with a brake cable.
The reason behind the elderly man’s supposed suicide could not be confirmed.
However, a source disclosed that he had been having disputes with a close family
member. According to a source, the elderly man was found hanging from a tree
near a shop at Mkhulamini.
When reached for comment, the elderly man’s son, Mandla, confirmed the passing
of his father. However, he politely requested not to elaborate on the matter as
they were grieving as a family. Chief Police Information and Communications
Office Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the suicide. She said police
officers were contacted and found the man already dead.
The suicide was committed at a time when government, through the Deputy Prime
Minister (DPM), Themba Masuku, expressed concern over the escalating number of
people killing themselves. The DPM said they were concerned with the sporadic
killing of citizens which had resulted in 88 people’s lives being taken in the
past three months through different incidents.
