Times Of Swaziland: CPS MEMBER ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT OF GUARDS CPS MEMBER ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT OF GUARDS ================================================================================ Times Reporters on 14/07/2023 08:01:00 MBABANE - A 21-year-old University of Eswatini (UNESWA) student, who is also a member of the Communist Party of Swaziland, has been arrested for assaulting four security officers at the Mbabane Campus. Sambulo Mlandvo Shongwe of Gundvwini is also accused of assaulting another security guard near Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT). It is alleged that Shongwe found the security guards at the gate and assaulted them, unprovoked. Shongwe made his appearance before Magistrate Qondile Mtetwa last Wednesday. In the first count, Shongwe is accused of assaulting Celumusa Nkambule with a steal chair on the head with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm. Assaulting He is also accused of assaulting Edmord Myeni with a blunt object on the body. The student is accused of punching Thabo Simelane with a fist in the face while at the institution on the same day that he assaulted the duo. On March 30, he is said to have assaulted Mlungisi Madzinane with a fist and open hand on the face while near LUCT. On July 9, 2023, Shongwe is alleged to have assaulted Zakhele Mkhaliphi with open hands on the face. When informed of his rights to legal representation, Shongwe elected to hire an attorney. The Crown applied that he be remanded in custody until July 14, 2023, pending setting of his trial date. He was advised to return to court with his attorney on July 14, 2023.
