The arrest of the 52-year-old Simunye-based police officer brings the number of law enforcers accused of rape to three. This current incident follows that of a police officer and a warder, who were both arrested for alleged sexual intercourse with minors. *Mambazo, who is based at Simunye Police Station allegedly raped his colleague’s15-year-old daughter at the police quarters in September this year. According to a source close to the matter, the accused was apprehended on Wednesday. This was after the reportedly raped minor, who is doing Grade 10 in a South African school, was brought to Eswatini by her mother. The minor’s mother is a police officer and is based at Simunye Police Station. As of yesterday, the accused police officer is said to still be in custody at Siteki Police Station. The mother of the complainant, *Beauty, took her daughter to the Lubombo Referral Hospital, where she was examined. It has been also established that the accused police officer had been recently transferred to Simunye Police Station. This publication also gathered that he was recently arrested and was out on bail, hence his superiors resorted to transferring him. The source narrated that Beauty received a call from the school administration informing her that her daughter was acting strange as she was isolating herself from the other learners and also not concentrating in class. Beauty was informed by the teachers that her daughter, after a thorough investigation by the staff, shared that she was allegedly raped by her ‘uncle’ - a police officer who shares a surname with her mother. She is said to have told the teachers that it was in the morning when her mother instructed her to go and give her ‘uncle’ some food. The source added that the female police officer then went to pick her daughter and she then narrated her ordeal in the presence of another senior police officer at the station. arrested The source stated that they then apprehended and arrested the police officer, who was on duty, and he was handed over to Siteki Police Station on Wednesday, afternoon.Unpacking what the alleged raped child shared with the police, the source mentioned that the minor told her mother in the company of senior police officers that her ‘uncle’ allegedly raped her after locking the doors and undressing himself, before throwing her on the bed. “It is a sad story because the future of the child is in jeopardy as her mother is also not thinking straight after what happened,” said the source. The source continued to share that police officers at the Simunye Police Station were shocked about the incident. “Everyone is shocked and the mother is so traumatised such that she has not been working since she received the call from her daughter’s school. “She has been isolating herself even though some of her colleagues have tried to comfort and console her about the incident. We hope justice will be served in this matter and not be put under the carpet like in other instances that took place involving police officers,” concluded the source. Beauty said she received a call from her daughter’s teachers in South Africa. She stated that when she arrived at her school on Wednesday morning, she was informed that her daughter told the educators that she became afraid to share her ordeal with her on the basis that she was not sure how she would act. “I cried and failed to control myself in front of the teachers. I asked myself what I had done to deserve such from someone I treated as a brother. “It is so painful because trusting someone, even treating him as a relative and a sibling, has turned out to be the worst nightmare for me,” she said. Moreover, Beauty mentioned that she brought her daughter back to the police camp and a senior police officer heard what happened and swiftly instructed police officers to effect an arrest on the accused. She further said: “After running the tests, the doctors came back with the results and confirmed that she had been raped,” Beauty said, before requesting not to comment any further. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati said a 52-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old minor.
